Arthur Maxberry Coach Jess Thompso Assistant Coach Coach Jerry Bell Trainer Joe Bob Craig Lind i 135, Novice Teoh Novier Adding a final touch to the 1952 football campaign was the announcement last week of the Big Six Junior College Conference all-star team, selected by the lea- gue’s coaches. As usual, many _ dif- ferences of opinion emerge from the choosing of all-star aggregations since it is doubtful that there is any efficient system for giving recognition to ‘The’ out- standing performers. However, for the select few who are able to make “dream teams’ there is o feeling of pride which is well deserved. To those un- publicized performers, who are omitted from the distinc- tion, only a sad feeling of disappointment inside, to go along with words of praise for those elected. Tyler, the conference champion, dominated the list with a total of ten players on the offensive-defensive squads, with Paris holding five spots, while Little Rock and Cameron each placed three men. One choice from Kilgore completed the 22- man selections. From Cameron, Bill Fraley was picked as left guard on the offensive platoon, while Reuben Ruiz and Jerry Mc- Euen captured the right end and right halfback posts, respectively on the defensive unit. Sill 41 is expended. Fraley, a 5’10”% guard who packs a 207 pounds, is one of the outstanding block- ers in the conference. After playing three years as full- back at Chelsea high school, Nowlin stops the progress of Hutchinson Dragons. Fraley became a mainstay in Coach Jess Thompson’s forward wall. It is well that this lad was chosen since he was one of the lesser publicized performers in the circuit. Ruiz, a well liked guy from Baton Rouge, Louisi- ana, was a defensive demon especially in conference clashes. The Aggies were well manned in ends this season with a talented ar- ray composed of Ruiz, Bill McClain, A. C. _ Loftis, Dwaine Stephens, Larry Cas- 3 sil, and Larry Gulihur. McEuen, a defensive half- back, became the Aggie’s punter after Buddy Donley was injured and Jerry fared well in both roles. He was an exceptional pass defen- der. While one could mention a good characteristic about every player on the Cameron roster, it is disappointing that John Sill and Buck Johnson were not chosen. Sill was the chief ball-toter of the Aggie spread formation and naturally possessed hard running ability, but he was edged by the Paris fullback, Ray Chandler, the only re- peater from the 1951 team. In Johnson, Cameron had a defensive tackle that was al- ways in on the play. Usually, in fumbles occurring near the line, it was Buck who brought up the ball. Building up steam as each new. foe appears,’ the Cameron Aggie’s football machine, operating off a forcible spread formation, streaked past an_ invading Kilgore aggregation, 35-13, Thursday night, October 9, to add triumph number five to their thus far all victor- ious campaign. It was the mighty running of Denzil Hankins and John Sill that paved the way for the Aggies second confer- ence win of the season. Hankins scored three tallies and blocked out would-be tacklers time and again, while Sill crashed across for a pair of touchdowns and converted successfully five times. Hobbs-holds that line. Toma, 44, lays one up. Since the days of Adam and Eve, people have been designated to inform other people of happenings of which they know very little. Writing for the Cameron Collegian frankly had me worried, until | started watching basketball practice and decided to report on it. After observing the first two weeks of practice, it seems to me that Coach Harvey Pate, has a squad of around twenty boys, who could rightly be called mono- maniacs. They eat, sleep, and think basketball 25 hours a day, although the first game is scheduled for a full month away. The practice drills have been used strictly for fun- damentals, passing, shooting, dribblings, individual, de- fense, and general condition- ing. Coach Pate, believing firmly in ambidextrousness, has spend a good part of each practicesin developing this specialty. At present it appears that the five returning squadmen, Dan Toma, Lloyd Barry, Fred Mueller, Gerald Lucas, and Jack Stephenson, will take over the spot-light dur- ing early season games, but will be hard pressed by a fine looking bunch of Fresh- man prospects. Coach Pate reported that Toma and Muller (whom | have known intimately since a very early age) have shown especially fine performances. With the season for the sport of roundballing not yet underway, my job will not really begin until then . so | can give two point- ers which every Ag prospec- tive should now and then close (1) Always carry a long board with a nail in it, for those shots which go over your head, and (2) Always carry a BB pistol for those which the board won’t reach. Cameron Aggies won their sixth straight conference basketball game Monday night and the third of their four-game road trip by clip- ping the Paris Dragons, 69-55, on their own court. Coach Harvey Pate’s Roundballers now hold an envied 18-4 season record and are undefeated in league play. Pate’s charges have A mad scramble. Lloyd Barry, 22, of Cameron, drives by Jimmie Rollings of Eastern A M. also run up a string of five consecutive wins since their loss to Oklahoma A M freshmen in Stillwater. Rogers Morgan, Aggie center, topped the scoring for both teams, swishing the net with nine field goals and ten charities, for a total of 28 points. Stevenson was second for Cameron and tied with Charley Bright of Paris with 14. Trotter, Moser, Leland Keel misses a left jab. port HN Last Monday, the Lawton Lions club entertained the Cameron Aggies boxing squad as guests at the club’s annual luncheon in acknowl- edgement of the fine show- ings illustrated by the college pugilists, thus far. Coach Jess Thompson was present to discuss plans for the coming Golden Gloves Tournament, which is a yearly project of the Lions club. The fist-flying affair gets under way February 2 at Ft. Sill’s Honeycutt Gym and will continue through the night of the fifth. The tourney is expected to be loaded with talent this sea- son, sO come on out and witness Strictly Sports hee. and England fight for the ball. Cameron boxers scored a clean sweep in their six fights featured in the East- West match at Oklahoma City Wednesday night, Jan- uary 7, four of them nothing victories for the winning West team. The Aggie’s two remaining fighters won ex- hibition decisions, with the West winning the match, 10-6. Gene Morgan posted the first knockout on the card over Muskogee’s 126-pound Gerald Meeks in 40 seconds of the second round Leon Hollingshead added to the West’s team points when he scored a decision over Tulsa’s Bob Alexander in a 147-pound bout and Dale Kite, newly acquired Cameron scrapper, grabbed a close decision from E. J. Alexander, southpaw Indian from Tulsa in a 112-pound scrap BB Farron Hottle, fighting in the 147-pound division, out- pointed Idabel’s Richard Wall. In supporting bouts not counting on the team scramble, Cameron’s Leland Keel and Carl McClure won their matches. Keel took a split decision from Willie Harjo of Oklahoma City and heavyweight McClure whip- ped OU’s Gover Zotigh. The intramural basketball season will get its first test on the hardwood sometime during the week of January 5th, with eight male and three female squads already entered. A weekly schedule will be posted on the bulletin boards Monday of each week. The rules set up by coaches Harvey Pate and Franklin Spruill are: 1. No a ‘a RH - ee SE wen Hollingshead covers up. player may participate with more than one team; 2. Varsity basketball players will not be eligible, with coach Pate making all deci- sions concerning this; 3. All protests will be settled by game officials at the time the question arises. The game officials selec- ted by the coaches are Dan Toma and Tom Pickering. Jumping over to the art of Pugilism, we find a_ star- filled card between Cameron and Oklahoma _ University being presented for boxing fans tomorrow night in the Aggie Gym. Coached by Jess Thompson and M Sgt. Arthur Maxberry, the team has engaged Granite, Fort Smith, Okla. U., and Ft. Sill squads already this year. Some of the boys are still rounding into shape and have yet to crawl through the ropes this season. Oh! The mad scramble in intramurals. Looking especially good are Farren Hottle and Bobby Mansell, both 147-pounders. Hottle has defeated three tough foes and dropped a close decision to Jerry Browning, an O.U. glover. Mansell has emerged victor- ious in all three of his en- counters. Then too, Cameron has Gene Morgan, last year’s 126-pound state Golden Gloves champion and also Carl McClure, the bombastic Clinton heavyweight. Richard Robling who fights at 147 pounds is in fine condition and is looking forward to his finest year. There are also some other good boxers on the Cameron team that we haven't ob- served as of yet, so if some favorite hasn’t been men- tioned, it is certainly a mis- take and not an opinion of quality.
