W. o. field. 1 In the second game of the season C. H. S. won from Kidder Institute 19 to O. The game was played at Kidder. Cameron then met its first defeat of the Season 011 the M215'SVil16 grid' iron, Maysville winning by a 13 to G SC'0I'9- The C. H. S. aggregation next defeated Gower 32 to .0 .on the Gower grid- iron. Coach Utz changed lineup from this game, shifting 'fToad Parks from right end to halfback. This greatly strengthened the C. H. S. offensive. Coach Utz, Captain HBui-ke and Co. next advanced on the enemy at League Park, St. J oseph. There they battled St. Josph Central to a 0 to 0 tie. This was one of the hardest fought games of the season. Coaches Utz and Stankowski, both of M. U. had such evenly matched elevens on tl1e field that neither could work the pigskin across' the goal line. ' The gold and black next humbled Benton High of St. Joseph on the M. XV. C. gridiron. The score was 26 to 0. ' Then came the encounter with Trenton which proved to. be the classic gridiron battle of the season. Trenton had an excellent offensive and several times threatnd to score but was successful only once and their try for goal was blocked by Toad Parks. Toad also caught a Trenton punt and ran 60 yards for Cameron 's only tuochdown. He hus acquired the title of the hero of the battle of Trenton. Captain Burke Fry kicked goal for the point which meant victory for C. H. S. All the Cameron players and 'Coach Utz deserve a great deal of credit for cleanly defeating the strong Trenton aggregation.. And :although the score it as only .7 to 6 it proved what a combination of ight, grit, strategy, and speed will accomplish against a heavier eleven. Cameron's next triumph was over Plattsburg 20 to 0. The hard-fighting aggressive Chillicothe aggregation was next defeated 25 to 13. This game was played on the M. W. C. field. The visitors out- played Cameron in the early part of the game but the gold and black hit its stride in the last half and scored the necessary touchdowns. Several regulars did not start the game but most of them went into the fray before it was over. A very unfortunate accident took place during the game. Elmer Peters one of the visitors halfbacks was seriously injured but we are glad to state that he fully recovered. The final game of the season was the Annual Turkey Day tilt with our ancient rival. Libretys. It resulted in a 13 to 6 victorv for Liberty. Snow fell during the game and yet despite the snow and cold both teams played very creditable football. , Thus as the final whistle was sounded on Thanks- giving Day, the curain fell on the last scene of the successful 1923 gridiron season. Those valiant warriors and Coach Utz deserve great praise for the ard work and the time spent in making the 1923 team a success. . On the C. H. S. squad there are several players who rank as out-stand- ing stars in Northwest Missouri football circles. On the whole the 1923 team was.. one of the best balanced aggregations ever to fight on the gridiron for C. H. S. The boys are all clean sports and their conduct on and off the field wasa credit to C. H. S. Coach Utv proved himself a master t t 1 J 1 1 ' s ra egist and a prince of a fellow. The season 's record Of Seven games won one tied, l ant two lost. indeed marks the 1923 season as one of the most successful in the annals of Cameron High history. Utz, opened the season by winning from Liberty, on the Liberty court, 16 to 13. The next encounter was on the C. H. S. court with Richmond. The. game was a nip and tuck affair and it was only baskets by Chick Leach 111 the last few minutes that made possible the second victory. The score was 11 to 8. Gower was the next victim, being trimmed at a 35 to 10 tune. The team showed excellent foim in this game. Next came the Liberty battle. It was the renewal of the long standing feud lvetween these two ancient foes, Cameron and Liberty. With the score 20 to 19 in Liberty 's favor and only a few seconds I'emaiHiDg, Offitt 9Hf91'9f1 the game, and electrified the crowd with a beuatiful shot from mid court. Then came the final whistle-Cameron had won its third straight victory, 21 to 20. , - , - A The next victory was over the Chillicothe quintette 26 to 20. C. H. S. suffered its first defeat of the season at the hands of the fast La- fayette aggregation, on the Stl Joseph court 20 to 18. The gold and black basketeers next administered their second durbbing to the Riclimond five, by a 23 to 20 score. Cameron 's next triumph was over Maysville 27 to 18. ' The C. H. S. basket, cagers simply outclassed the Gower team in their second encounter the score was 47 to 1.6. Cameron was next defeated 33 to 19 by the crack Benton team at St. Joseph. G The final home game with Holt 'was the count classic of the 1924 season. Only a few seconds were left to play-Holt led 18 to 17-Ketcham received the ball and turning, looped it high toward the baske-the ball dropped thru without touching the rim-2 points and victory. 19 to 18-the game was over. The first team Cameron met in the tournament was the Lafayette five which had defeated Camron earlier in the season. With Toad and Finis hit- ting the basket from all angles, with 'iChick getting the ball and advanc- ing it to the forwards. and with Maggie and Burke defending the goal. in stellar fashion, it was necessary for Lafayette to be contented with the short end of 34 to 10 score. T C. H. S. then drew a bye which advanced them to the third round of the tourpament. Chick and Maggie claim C. H. S. won easily from this rye eam.
