CLASS HISTORY Tvxelve vears ago and lt seems like vesterdav vve first entered dear old Cuncron High School under the dlrectlon of XIISS Xlary Hentz Our first vear was filled vuth reading writing and arithmetic We struggled through eager to pass on to the second grade In the second gr ide vve were taught bv Nlrs Lowry and to our dellght vve sat at tables Instead of desks The next vear due to the large number III our class we were dxvlded with part of the class under Xhss Katherine XlcDonald and part under Nlxss Nllnnle Nluse Our class was reunlted m the fourth grade under Miss 'xlargaret GllChTlSt This was an interesting vear ln spelling vvc had a contest called the Reds and the Blues The Blues won the contest 1nd enjoyed being entertained at a party Elnora Holt yolned our class that vear Xlrs lxate Nlclx er vvas our fifth grade teacher This vear we learned proverbs and Bibles were given to the ones learning the most Because she was fond of us or so we hke to thunk 'vlrs Cone N1cPherson taught us for two years our sixth and seventh Outstanding in our memories of those vears are the booklets vxe made of cllfferent countries Nlrss katherme XfclJonald who had been teaching primary students was asked to be our eighth grlde te lchcr We were known as being the most lT!lbChlCW0l1b class lll school that vear Miss N1cDonald stopped teaching the next vcar and no wonder after what she went through with us Fmallv we were Freshmen XVe felt completely lost that first day when chang mg classes but everyone got over that pretty soon Nirs Phxlhps was our home room teacher Nfr NfcLeod our new principal taught us c1v1cs a subject every one cnyoyed The glrls started thelr courses m Home Economlcs under Nlrs Ralph XVomble and the bovs took up agriculture under Nlr O B Pullen XVe had mathematics under Nhss Nlary Emma Thomas and English under Nlrs Doris White The fall of 1945 found us as Sophomores and under a new principal 'slr W C Stephenson Mrs lhllllpS was promoted wlth us as our homeroom teacher and she also taught us biology a very interesting subject Outstanding events th1s vcar ln Home Economics were the shopplng tour to Raleigh and the supper and theater party we enjoved with the boys of our class While the boys were taklng Home Economics the girls went m for agriculture and Mr Pullen took us to San ford to the freezer locker and ice cream plant and also to Southern Plnes to see the race horses The class officers this year were johnme Lownmore President Annie Lee Hopkins Vlce President Beatrice Thomas Secretary and Catherine Briggs Treasurer Our junior vear was crowded wlth wonderful trmes We gave two plays The Neighbors and The Calamity kids which we enyoyed practlcmg That won de rful tnp to Lake XVacamaw and the be ich on our holldav getting ready for the umor Semor Banquet especrallv painting those fences and then gomg to the ban quet the next night are never to be forgotten Be ttv jean Houth Mac Thomas and jumor Falrcloth joined our class this vear Class officers Pl'6SldtIlf Elnora Holt Vice President Catherine Brlggs Secretarv Polly lo Denny Treasurer Anna Nlatthews Thls vear we took American History under Mrs Phnlhps Chemistry under Mrs Llovd Thomas and English and Spamsh under Miss McGraw All too soon came the end of our junior year X acatlon passed quickly and rn September 1947 we returned to be Seniors with Xlrs Phillips again as our sponsor We had a cllss of seventeen Class office rs vvere President Anna Nlatthews Nice Prcsldent Annie Ice Iloplelns Secret nv Nl xc Thomas Treasurer Puchnrcl Comer ,Innes l oxv rnnorc jolnc cl us this ve lr 'it 20 ri' 1 11 -1 -. .
