The Red Raiders were on the road to open the season and were defeated by Brockway 25 to 0. Early mistakes stopped the locals time and time again when they were close to scoring in the opener. The following Saturday the Raiders returned home and were defeated by Ridgway 19 to 6. Moving into league action on the next Saturday the Raiders and the Coudersport Falcons fought to a 13-13 tie. Taking to the road for the fourth game the Red Raiders were on their way to victory but a late rush by the Port Allegany Gators found the locals losing 14 to 12. The Raiders returned home and for the second time in the season were shut out, this time by the Otto-Eldred Terrors 19-0. For the season's longest road trip the Raiders suffered a 43 to 6 setback at the hands of the Sheffield Wolverines. In the final home game the Raiders fought hand and foot and came out on top against the johnsonburg Rams 14 to 6. Con- tinuing the fine play the Red Raiders then went to St. Marys and in one of the area's top games defeated the Dutch 32 to 13. A new offense shotgun led the Raiders to their second straight victory. The season's final was a big game for the Raiders as they had a chance to throw the league into a two way tie. But it was not in the books and Smeth- port handed the locals a 31 to 7 setback. Tom Romick, team captain, led the club in scoring with twenty points. Other scoring was done by: Stan Schwender eighteen points, Don Farber thirteen points, jim Benyon twelve points, Bob Greif eight points, Bud Murray seven points, Bob Horning six points, and Rick Bauer six points. The junior Varsity squad ended the season with a 7-2 record and with some of the performances, the 1964 season looks to be a great one. IOO RED RAIDER BASKETBALL The Cameron County High School Red Raider Varsity basketball team ended the 1963-64 season with a record of 15 wins and 5 defeats. This year's Red Raiders squad was not picked to be one of the area's best, but under Coach Jim Thompson the Raiders used a lot of hustle and some fine shooting to finish third in a tough North Tier league with a record of 9-5, and against three non-league foes were 6-0. The non-league wins were against St. Marys, Ridgway, and johnson- burg. All three fell twice to the Red Raiders in action before the opening of the league in january. In the North Tier league opener the Red Raiders defeated Austin and were still undefeated and waiting for the battle with the Coudersport Falcons. Before an SRO crowd the Raiders fell to the taller Falcons for the first defeat of the season. Still not down they came back to defeat Otto- Eldred in a thriller 50-49. After the one point victory the Red Raiders again played to a SRO crowd and lost to Smethport in three overtimes, 72-70. This game will long be remembered in the halls of Cameron County High School. The Red Raiders came back to win two-in-a-row with wins over Northern Potter and Port Allegany. On the road the Red Raiders fell to Oswayo Valley but they got back on the beam with a win over Austin. Then again they faced Coudersport in a battle to the wire, went down to defeat 48-40 and the Falcons were classed as the top club in the area. The Red Raiders were down but not counted out as they came back to defeat Otto-Eldred. In a must game the Red Raiders were at Smethport and for three periods were on top but then the Raiders went cold and Smethport won 49-48 to drop the Red Raiders out of the race. Yet for the Red and Wfhite the Raiders came back to win the final three games from Northern Potter, Port Allegany, and Oswayo Valley to end the 1963-64 season with a 15-5 record. Coach Thompson has been the head coach of the Red Raider Varsity for the past six years and his combined record is 92 wins against only 34 defeats. This year's squad has the second best record in the 6 years Mr. Thomp- son has been head coach. Only one year, 1961-62, was the record better, and that was the year the Raiders won 22 and lost only 1. Other records: 1958-59, 15-7, 1959-60, 13-7g 1960-61, 14-7. Published yearly for those interested in Cameron County High School, The Raider records the memories of each school year. For the Seniors it serves as the culmination of six years within the confines of C.C.H.S.g for the underclassmen-a yearly reminder of school days, for the staff-this completed issue represents many months of hard work, earning money, planning pages, writing copy, scrambling for pictures, assembling copy sheets and hustling them off to the publisher and keeping fingers crossed until it is in your hands.
