And muses on the faces of the friends he has knowngf So I turn the leaves of memory, 'til in fancy's design, X I see the smiling features of an old school mate of mine. The above poem fparaphrasedp it seems to me-is indicative of the mood of people who, in years hence, look at the pages of their high school annual. May I urge each of you not to dwell too much in the past, when you glean the pages of this book, but that you look to the future and that you strive to become the sort of American citizen that you, during your greatest moments of ideal- ism, dreamed of being.
