REFLECTIONS OF OUR A Spartan was a person who was severe, stern, and lived a strict military environment. He acted with responsibility and used his leadership qualities to the best of his ability. The man himself was tough, proud, and very well disciplined. These Spartans were the bravest men of all. The military life of the Spartans began at the age of seven. At this age, they learned to fight and use weapons. They were trained to march to war in their finest clothes at the sound of music. They learned to endure physical hardships and public punishment and accept discipline without questions. They all ate in the same dining hall and slept in the same barracks. For physical training they were educated in gymnastics, running, jumping, boxing, and wrestling. They were permitted to do little more than dedicate their lives to the profession of the sword and spear. The Spartan men had no home life and were forbidden to travel to other cities. They all grew up living and sharing, causing them to believe in simple habits and living styles. They believed in living in the past, a strict military environment. The ancient Spartans were the most skilled and devoted soldiers of their age. A Camden Military Academy Spartan is a person who grows in mind and spirit. He lives in a strict military environment and through his acts of responsibility and leadership qualities he moves up in the ranks of the corps of cadets. The cadet is very well disciplined and made tough through his military training. This is what makes a cadet proud to be a part of this academy, The military life at the academy begins in the seventh grade and extends through the twelfth grade, When a student becomes a cadet, he learns basic military movements, how to march in a company formation, and how to drill with a weapon. With this training he participates in military parades dressed in his best uniform marching to the beat of the band. The punish- ment is made public by the reading of special orders which are read in the mess hall where all the cadets eat; he also lives in his company barracks which are run by the cadet officers. For exercise he is required to attend physical training and participate in wrestling, track, football, basketball, baseball, cross country, and soccer. The cadet is allowed to leave campus at certain times and to go home on furloughs. Through the dedication of the cadet's effort to better this school, he makes this an excellent opportunity for himself and future cadets to keep the tradition of this being a fine military academy. The cadets at Camden Military Academy all live in a military environ- ment where they grow, living together and learning to share all the things they have learned. The life is not very complicated and the cadets get out of this academy what they put into it. The Camden Military Academy reflects the Spartan Image that was established and developed by the ancient Greeks during their reign of world power. The Drill Team and the Color Guard stand at attention during the Veteran's Day ceremony. OD— Phil Zeski, OG — Frank Foster, Mess Officer — Jonathan Lewis, Jeff Leneave and OC — Major McClendon wait for the reports from the 1st SGTS at lunch. Ronnie Vergnolle studies the Immense Journey, a very deep subject for a very shallow mind. SPARTAN IMAGE 2
