GASTRONOMIC ACHIEVEMENT Mrs. Davis feeds the whole family. Greenwich Mean Time is the base for standard time in most countries and the Atomic Clock in Boulder is the authority on chronometry, but Mrs. Bessie Davis’ kitchen clock establishes CMA time. Her mess hall is CMA’s hub, and for seventeen years, she has served three meals per day, on time, to more than two hundred cadets, a seven day a week process, late August to mid-May, with breaks only at Christmas and for spring vaca- tion. In all those years, Mrs. Davis missed actually serving meals only twice, once to attend a wedding, once a funeral. An army marches on its stomach and Mrs. Davis knows CMA cadets stay in step by partaking of her culinary products. This Camden native rises at four each morning and departs the mess hall after seven in the evening, “My job’s tough,” she says, “but I couldn’t make three meals a day possible without my staff and KP’s.” They’re obviously dedicated to her and, as she is, to feeding the hungry corps, Mrs. Davis is a mother of six and a grandmother fifteen times. “I like boys,” she says.
