PASS IN RFVIFW A salute and a test Without parallel in its group precision and in its splendor, a military review is a time to show off, it's a time to be proud, and it's a time to honor The parade is both a salute and a test, a salute to that individual or group of individuals to be honored and a test of the discipline and capabilities of the organi- zation passing in review. Aspects of the review reflect life's tempo and patterns. Each marching participant takes his place, the position exact. Rigidly choreographed, military ceremony is symbolic of life, the dress parade much like the structured school year itself. Both the review and the academic year consist of many different facets, culminating in events which are planned, practiced, and finally happen. Keeping in step with the band, the corps marches as one onto the parade field. Now facing the specta- tors, the battalion stands strong, stands fast, stands proud. The Star-Spangled Banner plays, every member at present arms. The adjutant posts the orders, officers march to the center, and the staff positions themselves to lead. Shoes shine like glass, brass reflects light. The battalion steps out to march tempo, not youth playing soldier, but people in rapid transition from boyhood to manhood. The unit passes in review, the climactic conclusion to a mili- tary parade, the stuff memories flood from, memo- ries that will continue to flow. Let them pass in review. 2
