Camden Military Academy and Her Community Camden Military Academy is ardently involved in her community. We are tied to her in myriad ways. Cadets from our Academy participate in many prestigious and worthy local happenings, such as: The Camden Heart Fund Drive; Veterans Day ceremonies; The Carolina and Colonial Cup Steeplechases; Camden Community Theater produc- tions; Camden Fine Arts Center activities; The American Cancer Society Fund Drive; The Camden Parade; forensic activities throughout the state and nation; plus countless others of no less importance. We of the Academy feel the tie that binds Camden and our school grows stronger and stronger each and every year. A choral performance in conjunction with a church choir. Camden cadets held a Christmas performance prior to our December Christmas furlough. Cadets in the choir have also appeared at a number of churches and in a play. Cadets are observing the military weaponry at a museum during a tour of Ft. Jackson in Columbia, in which 168 members of the corps toured this training facility and training sites. Cadets got a taste of real Army life. Cadets in 7th and 8th grade classes are shown above during a tour of Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, S. C. This day off from the usual schedule was spent learning a bit more about nature and her creatures. 4 Members of the 7th and 8th grade classes toured historic Fort Sumter in Charleston, S. C. These cadets enjoyed a taste of history that marked the beginning of our Civil War.

Twenty Years Proud A company formation during the early days of Camden Military Academy. The old style two story barracks looms in the background as a reminder of days gone by since our beginning. Even though this scene is many years old, it is reminiscent of our many formations today. Field trips to such historic sites as Fort Sumter off Charleston, S. C., help us understand our past. Our past is inherently part of our future. To under- stand where we stand today in 1978, we must remember CMA’s past. Humble beginnings with a handful of faculty and students have grown into a proud unit of approximately 250 cadets. Our future looks bright as we view a reflection of our past. A traditional salute of “eyes right” as a unit passes in front of the reviewing stand. In December of this year, the battalion held a parade in honor of a departing faculty member, SFC Cayton. The parade is the highest honor a military unit can bestow upon an individual. Work never seems to get done. Keeping all of our facilities clean and shipshape takes the effort of all :he corps. To maintain sharp rooms, barracks and selves is a 24. hou r a day job. But the work pays off as the USA has rated CMA “An Honor Unit with Distinction.” We look back into CMA's early history to see the inside of an old style open barracks. We have come a long way, to brick barracks with individual two-man rooms. This scene might seem a bit harsh and austere, but it also helped to form the foundation of CMA as we know it today. 3
