. , , The spiritual qualities must be strengthened to guide the thoughts of the acute mind and the steps of the strong body down the paths of manliness, un- selfishness, duty, and service, to the great satisfaction of having not only made a living, but having lived successfully a life. “The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time. —Jefferson, . . . “I want this school to be the best preparatory school in South Carolina, if not in all the South.” So declares Col. Canning P. Risher when he speaks about Camden Military Academy, of which he is Headmaster. For eight years he has been working toward that goal, and with his determi- nation and education, nobody doubts that he will make it. He is well qualified for the position he holds, having been weaned on life in a military school. Besides graduating from Carlisle Military School, he gained a degree from The Citadel and went back to Carlisle to teach after a tour of duty in the Infantry. He came to CMA in 1958 and started with a total enrollment of 95 cadets, from which start he has progressed to the present student body of 240. Truly, with a continuation of this progress, his dream will come true. The Administration When we hear someone say “Building men for the future of America,” we instantly think of the man who has made this ideal his life’s work. Col. James F. Risher, our President, has been molding boys’ characters since he first started teaching at Carlisle Military School in 1924. He enlarged his opportunities in 1939 by purchasing the school, and again in 1958 by acquiring CMA. It can truly be said that South Carolina is in his debt for “making men out of boys” and pro- viding them with an education they might never have received. II
