In ilmuriam JAMES LEE BRIDWELL Academy Cadets were grieved upon hearing of the fate of a very close friend. Jimmy had received the citizenship award at his gradua- tion in June of 1960. We will remember this, his last moment with the entire Cadet Corps, as fitting. He was distinguished from the gradual ing class to be given this token cf his friendly spirit, his cooperative attitude and his willingness to work for others. Every boy affected by his life here at Camden grew through his daily contact with Bridwell. We know that he lived for a purpose and that purpose was found here at the Academy.

DEDICATION To Capt. William P. Beckham for his unfailing interest in, and untiring efforts on the part of, the activities of Camden Military Academy, we, the Senior Class, do proudly and appreciatively dedicate this, the Excalibur of 1961. In this way, we would like to represent the school as a whole in its gratitude for all his serv- ices throughout the three years he has been on the Faculty. We feel privileged and honored to have been associated with a man so understanding and devoted to helping youth find a place in life.

PRESIDENT COLONEL JAMES FRANKLIN RISHER Col. James F. Risher was born in Hampton County, South Carolina, on November 26, 1889. After attending the South Carolina public schools, he completed his formal education at The Citadel in 1911. Eleven years of public school teaching ended in 1922 when he be- came an instructor at Carlisle. Becoming Head- master in 1928, Colonel Risher was able to build a school which was destined to become a leader in southern preparatory schools. The year 1958 saw Camden Military Academy be- come an even further accomplishment in his contribution to the education field. His vast ex- perience now enables him to guide the lives of the combined corps of the brother schools. Colonel Risher is known throughout the United States for his speaking ability and has traveled this year as far as Colorado. He has always been able to forego a busy schedule in order to encourage and challenge the young men in his life with his eloquent and timely parables. HEADMASTER COLONEL LANNING P. RISHER Col. banning Risher was bom on September 19, 1931, the son of our President, Col. James F. Risher. His birthplace was in Bamberg, S. C. He attended the public schools of Bamberg, Carlisle Military School, and The Citadel, where he graduated in 1952. He is now doing grad- uate work in history at the University of South Carolina. In 1953, he entered the army as a 2nd Lieutenant. In 1955, he came out of the Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant of In- fantry. Upon completion of his active duty. Col. Risher started teaching at Carlisle. He re- mained there for three years. He then came to Camden to take the job of Headmaster. For the past three years Col. Risher has put forth much effort to make Camden Military Academy a top grade school for everyone to be proud of. It is the opinion of the cadet corps that he has done this and much more. We of the EXCALIBUR staff salute you, Col. Risher, for a job well done. -5
