Ms. B. Hankins, Chairperson The English Department of Camden High School believes that education is living, and schooling should provide those structured patterns which enable students to cope with themselves, others, and society. English is not merely a subject but a way of life. The department is dedicated to fostering basic skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and thinking. The teach- ers endeavor to offer provocative activities and stimulating chal- lenges, which will encourage each student to develop his or her abili- ties fully. We feel that the stu- dents' achievements are our best measures of success. We recognize that each student has the potential to create his or her own reality, and we strive to provide them with a variety of di- versified materials and learning experiences, which will make their living experience unique and con- structive. . Histor Department Mr J Craigg Mr R Domenico Ms M Muse Mr J Parks Ms. P. Grossman Ms. M. Mansfield w V Mr. W. Walters, Chairperson Cicero once wrote: History is the witness of the times, the light of truth. Fully recogniz- ing the implications and chal- lenge of that thought, the Histo- ry Department at Camden High has Worked hard to develop a curriculum that will function to help students know and under- stand their world where social, cultural, and political condi- tions continually change. Courses in current events, in minority group problems, in ur- ban affairs, in current economic issues, in peace and war efforts, in political leadership, and in the Institute for Political Edu- cation have hopefully helped to create an awareness of and an involvement in life today. As history, like every other phase of our American life, is becoming more complex and in- volved, we history teachers have fully accepted the challenge and responsibility of developing our students' abilities to seek the truth in the wide range of politi- cal-social movements that con- front them every day, and to in- terpret such events so as to ef- fectively participate in society as intelligent and active citi- zens.
