r william bmp C1894 19395 Aspxre Persevere and Indulge Not That motto was the guxdmng hght mn the lxfe of our beloved chemxstry teacher and track coach the late Dr Wxllaam H Sexp Throughout hxs whole lxfe short ln years but full xn deeds Dr Sexp followed thls motto and helped others to follow xt through the sh1n1ng example of h1s own clean lxvxng After graduatxng from the Keystone State Normal School 1n l9l'l Dr Sexp entered the World War servxng as a machme gun sergeant mn France R turn1ng at the close of the war he re sumed hxs studxes earmng hxs B S degree from Muhlenberg College 1n 1922 and hxs M A from the Un1vers1ty of Pennsylvan1a xn 1925 Temple awarded h1m a Doctor of Educatlon degree 1n 1931 Before commng to Camden Hxgh D Selp taught at Hatch Jun1or Hlgh I both schools he turned out champxon shlp track teams Dr Selp was never content to teach subyect matter alone but emphasxzed perseverance and hon esty xn buzldmg h1s pup1ls characters Bertram Ruttenberg 1940 Dr Sexp w1ll never d1e Hls memory wxll always lxnger 1n the mmds of the students who loved hun Ralph Burattl 1940 Dr Sexp was a man who was held hxgh 1n the esteem of h1s assocxates for hxs understandxng of human nature and h1s unxque sense of humor John Hess 1939 I To the track team and me the memory of the great wlnnxng sp1r1t and hzs cry of dlg xn IS st1ll wlth us I still look up to Dr Selp as a great coach Harry Luessen 1939 Dr Selp was well known among stu dents and faculty for hxs clever and humorous way of drxvxng home a poxnt The boys of the track teams coached by h1m w1ll never forget hxs xns1stent D1g xn here Stuart MacIntosh We are contxnually thxnkzng of thxngs that we would lxke to do for our own pleasure or sat1sfactxon or advancement xn lxfe But too often we are unwxllxng to g1ve the t1me or expend the energy or make the httle sacmfzces all of whxch are needed to ach1eve any worthwhxle goal Dr Se1p was the k1nd of man who once he had made up h1s mxnd to do somethxng stuck to h1s task untxl lt was f1n1shed When we th1nk how much that fortunate tramt of stlck to xt we ness we reahze that though h1s al loted span was shorter than the aver age h1s llfe was even fuller 1n accom pllshment than that of most men John J Danaher I knew Doc Sezp personally for thxr teen years To me he wxll always rema1n a splendld teacher one who both under stood and loved hls puplls and fellow men a hard worker a perfect sports man a good scholar a loyal fnend a fellow traveler and one of God s True Gentlemen He w1ll ever be respected for h1s rugged heroxc qual1t1es and for the strength of h1s determxnatxon Hls whole lxfe was a record of successful accomplxshment over obstacles Wher ever he was he was a power for good All who came zn contact w1th hxm are stronger because of xt Carleton R Hopluns The High School Record 9 f P I Q .. . .. . x 1 ' ' ' ' , I . .
