2 THE MEGUNTICOOK EDITORIALS EDITORS' NOTE We, the Megunticook Board members, wish to thank all those people who helped make this issue possible. We especially wish to thank our advertisers. PERSONALITIES State of being a person and not a soulless thing or a mere idea. -Webster One of the most individual things anyone has is his personality. At birth, we are all entrusted with this intangible gift to develop to the best of our ability. We can bury ourselves in only one phase of life and become so well versed on only one subject that it becomes our entire existence. But isn't there more to life than that? Isn't it better to know less about one subject and a little about several altogether different topics? Don't pople who have well-rounded personalities really get more enjoyment out of living? If you spend all your waking hours with your thoughts and actions centered around one object, in no time at all your personality begins to warp. You lose interest in people, and before long you are considered a. little eccentric. On the other hand, if you are interested in a wide scope of activities, you meet all types of people. The person who has a wide knowledge makes excellent company. A person with a well-rounded personality must really be much happier than one who confines himself to just one phase. Life occupies an extremely short space of timeg therefore, now is the time to start broadening and expanding your personality. After all, isn't it better to really live than just exist? Julia M. Spear . A LOOK AT THE FUTURE Man, inevitably, is constantly searching for an answer to the question, What does the future hold in store for me? He is possessed of a nature inquisitive enough to delve into this problem, seeking a satisfying answer for himself. The two major questions concerning the future pertain to the later years of life and to the infinity after death. My aim is to deal, at this time,

THE MEGUNTICOOK with only the first, as it appears to be the more immediate and more readily analyzed, the second being more confused by theological beliefs. There are two stands we may take as we face the years ahead. The first of these is an attitude of complacency. Looking ahead, we may become resigned to the fact that we have no control over our destiny. Life is just a short span of years, which will soon be over. Let's just ride along on the swell, enjoying a bit of life, when it seems that no commitment need be made concerning it. We shall inevitably die and pass from the earth's clamor and excitement. Why waste time with impressions, good deeds, and other seemingly needless things when we shall soon be forgotten? The second attitude I should like to call that of living, an attitude of love, of happiness, of joy, an attitude that life is here to be enjoyedg that life is our time for good deeds, kind words, and helpful hands. A time to prove to everyone our courage and our worth. In what light are you going to look at the years after you are out of school? Are you going to look with complacency? If I had this attitude, I should be forced to say, O Lord, be merciful to me, a fool! No, I shall need no mercy for being a fool because of wasted time. I think I'll live! John M. Christie
