FOOL THAT I AM. Not very flattering, is it? But it describes the Sophomore Class. To- quote Webster, sophomore means wise fool. However, whatever you wish to call them, there were eighty- two members in I9-46. lt proved to be even more exciting than our fresh- man year,- No longer were we timid little things, We had gained confidence and sophistication. - lt didnlt take long to select our officers forlthe year, As our president we had Patricia Tate,' vice- president, Richard Dean, secretary, Anne Swatt and treasurer, Robert Harper. me chose Mrs. ,Dorothy Young' and Coach Bernard Bogie as our advisors. We decided to hdld our Sophomore Maydance on May 6, l.94.9andappointed Patricia Theobald as general chairman, The class colors, green and white, were used to decorate the gym. We left in June feeling we had gained many new friends and looked forward to the fall session. ' 'SOME ENCHANTED EVENING, There is no doubt that one of the most important events of the eleventh year is the annual Junior Prom. Throughout the year we looked forward to the evening of our own formal dance. Before l get too deep in the Prom, l must tell you who our officers were in l.94,9., Michael Hyland was our president., To substitute for him at times was Randall Bowman, vice-pres ident., The secretary and treasurer were Donna Ferris and Jane Peacock, respectively. As Student council representatives, we chose Marilin Durgee and Lon Palmer. To direct the footsteps of the fifty-six students enrolled in our class, were advisors Miss Mary white and Mr. ,Hugh Dowling. As a change in the custom, we ordered our class rings in our Junior year to ease the blow of our senior expenses. The week of November 14- I8 was dedicated as Junior Meek., During this week we advertised the Prom by hold- ing a basketball game between the Juniors and Seniors, and an assembly., ln the assembly we enacted a courtroom scene., Mike Hyland posed as theyjudge and various members of the Junior Class were wi nesses and jurors. Accusations were placed against the Senior Class and witnesses were called forth to testify. After the assembly was over, the decorations for the dance were finished., These were along the theme of a ship's deck, with a large coral seashell as the 4ieen's throne., Along the walls were placed life-savers and the bottom of the orchestra platform was trimmed with card- board painted to resemble waves. Music was furnished by the Pied Pipers. After the Grand March, the moment came which every. one had been waiting for--the crowning of the queen. Donna Ferris was chosen as queen and was crowned by Grace Yerdon, queen of l.948,- Donna 's attendents were lggggyniurgee, Marilyn Vager, Joan Freeman, and Patricia The general chairman of the dance was Joyce Tanner, who oversaw the proceedings both be fore and during the dance. THERE 'S A LONG, LONG, 'TRAIL A'WINDING. in the fall of l.950, the beginning of our senior year, our number had dwindled to forty-nine, We were completing our journey through high school and our paths were to separate soon, Nevertheless we made our senior year one of the happiest. Before we could begin any of the tasks to be completed, we chose our staff of officers and our advisors. Michael Hyland returned to office as president for the second time and the remaining officers were Patricia Theobald, vice-president,' Anne Swatt, secretaryg and Joan Freeman, treasurer. Choosen for advisors were Mr.,Clydesdale, Mrs, Young, Mr. Dowling, and Mr, Munson, yearbook advisor. To re resent our class in the Student Counci-I were Marilyn lager and Howard Finch, with Lynn Bird as alternate. We held a dance, the Kickoff, to raise money. We had several students to act as disk jockeys to spin the platters., lt was attended b a large crowd who had a wonderful time square dancing if, the call of the Wood- hall Boys, and then round dancing to some of the best recorded music in the land. whaf .9 'gb!!!! The general chairman was Jane Peacock, The general theme for the decoration of the gym was a Winter Won- derland, in a setting of evergreens on a snow-covered hill one could see a smiling snowman, a dream house flanked with Christmas angels, and .Rudolf the rednosed reindeer, patiently lighting the dancers during the evening, A large lighted Christmas tree adorned one end of the gym and opposite this was the spot-lighted Zhrone, a white sleigh, for the King and Oueen of the ance. The climax of the evening came when the last notes of the Grand March were played by Dick Martin's orches- tra. This was the moment in which the king, James Suits and the queen, Marilyn Evans, were crowned and presented to the waiting dancers, The royal attendants were Marilyn Yager, Jane Peacock, Annie Swatt, Mike Hyland, Randall Bowman, and Dave Farnsworth. ln March our Thespian fancy turned toward work on our Senior Play. After reading several plays, we decid- ed on Good Night, Ladies, a three-act comedy. Our director was Mr.-Ray Sallack, English and Dramatics teacher. The play was presented before large audiences April 20 and 21. Time is running short, Commencement is becoming a reality.. We weremeasured for caps and gowns, Announce- ments and formal name cards for our crowning achievement had to be ordered, Plans for Class Night, for' our fare- well outing, and for the Commencement Ball were discus- sed and formulated, But in all these designs for fun and frolic, we were secretly gnawed by the worrisome remlin, Final Examinations, our last hurdle toward a gig, wide, wonderful world, Yes, it looked like a long journey when we gained admittance to C.C.S.-in the fall of 1947. But we met our obstacles and jumped the many hurdles, Although it included a lot of hard work we enjoyed almost every min- ute of it, We had good times and some bad times but managed to survive.
