gpg X91-jc ' f' fb 1 'W R ufafuf Uf 7lze 40412 Naam Txmxdly hesxtatmg yet smxlmg proudly all the while the Class of 1949 reached forward anxious hands to take a long anticipated volume from the shelves of Educatxon The black and gold cover of the book desxred was a bit worn at the edges from constant use but xt stxll clearly dnsplayed the title Cambridge Hxgb School A brxef mtroductxon gave an over all view of the books plot and theme The table of contents listed the four chapters Freshman Sophomore Jumor and Semor wxth sub topxcs of Problems Dxscouragement and Good Times to be expected in each chapter Illustratlons and photographs of gala txred ej es between chapters Events in the openmg division of the book took place m 1945 46 Enrhralled from the very first sentences the readers were introduced to an entxrely new story of an entirely new l1fe It was the story of people who were at the bottom and yet enjoyed xt people who were learning working and be commg more and more a part of one common establ1shment Here and there was an oddly written phrase that at first was skimmed over but xt turned out later that Latm could be read too A newly formed Teen age center added gay eplsodes to dull scenes This was the mntxal chapter the foundatxon chapter the first sequence to be related and bound nn the making of the new book The Second Chapter was focused upon the same characters But somehow they seemed to have changed advanced a little Then too they had met such persons as Louns XVI bumped into a wut named Knlroy and had become prowl pals wxth Ash Can Pete Readers enjoyed lunch tame rhythms as they beat tnme to Am t Nobody Here But Us Chxckens Chapter Three took up the old routme once more A spxrxt of loyalty to support one cause was now more promment As the group gamed intellect their feet danced and sports enthused them Vivid descrnptxons of an outdoor show the Prom and a gymnastic revue added color whxle radxo scrlpts introduced a new experience As the pages were turned one by one Chapter Four loomed ahead All the thmgs that can go into any chapter were found here It was the final chapter Semor The group of characters followed through out the book had come from that bottom extreme they once knew to a distinguished height Qualntnes of leadershlp scholarship and sportsmanship had been brought out More responsibility had been shouldered A new prmcnpal made improvements in made promising headway Sketches on dances ath letncs photography and dramatxcs were enjoved whxle information on journallsm farmmg busmess trammg and test tube explorations was regarded more seriously for future use The days sped by quickly before the Forty Nmers as they flipped the pages untnl the Hnal page of that final chapter The Class of 49 fondles the old volume happy at completing the four chapters and yet regrettmg to leave the wonderful pages of unforgettable times As the book goes back upon the shelf xt wnll no longer be a dominating factor m the lives of the Forty Nmers 1ts pages have already mfluenced and molded their lxves and that book txtle Cambndge High School will always shme out from among the others on the shelf Each member of the class now turns to a supple ment Each IS reading somethmg different for they are reading now as mdnvnduals with different chap ters before them but whatever the pages hold each member of the Class of 49 15 sure to be movmg Ever Onward Doms DEPEW, H zslonan '--- K .
