1983 TROJAN Cambridge High School Cambridge, Nebraska Volume 27 Days Of Our Lives “Like the sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. The days at Cambridge High are special days. Days we will look back on with cherished memories of crazy times, studying until all hours, sad moments, and unforgettable times of being a part of CHS. With this annual you will be able to relive those past memories you enjoyed at Cambridge High School. Don’t forget to make the most of the days of your lives because they only happen once. 2 Table of Contents Classes Faculty and Administration Athletics ................. Activities Graduation ... Senior Credits Advertisements Index ........ Closing In Memory Ila I. Phelps 1915 - 1983 Many days of Ila Phelps’ life were spent in the classroom teaching math. After thirty years as a teacher and elementary principal at Cam- bridge, Ila resigned because of poor health. Teaching was Ila’s hobby as well as her vocation. The days of her life as a teacher will be remembered by many students and teachers. Ila passed away at her home in Riverton on July 16, 1983. I 4 S8SSB|0 Seniors sunset high school days “We have followed - now we lead.” So goes the motto of the class of ’83. Class flower was blue and white carnations and class colors were silver and blue. Class officers were: President - Vince Chitwood, Vice President - Rod Fiene, Secre- tary - Kurt Miller, Treasurer - Rob Druse. Colors and class officers will be remembered but not as well as the last football and basketball game, homecoming and prom, teachers and friends, parties, laughter, tears, and days leading up to graduation. Actually its all a big countdown with calendars and numbers, 50-40- 25-10-5-1-0, until the last day. Graduation is the first step to the rest of their lives. Graduates will never forget the memories of, possibly, the four best years of their lives. Then someday the Class of ’83 will again group together to find out what their classmates have accomplished. In fact, there were at least sixteen different classes for them to take. Decisions were based on their interests and plans for their lives after graduation. Studento spend their study time in Government class in various ways. Ready to board the bus for Beaver City are these seniors who will learn more about their government at County Government Day. Days of hard work pay off for wrestlers The Trojan wrestlers had another successful year with the help of first year Coach Bonesteel. This year the team consisted of fifteen members who were mostly und- er classmen with only two seniors, Mike Mousel and Roger Hein. The team did very well, placing several members in each tournament and they also did well in the many duals and triangulars throughout the season. Two members of the team, Mike Jesse and Jim Phillips, qualified for the state tournament. Next year should be a very promising year with the return of most of the members. Girls basketball memory day The girls basketball team this year gained a lot of experience. With first year coach Mary McCarthy, the team faced a real competitive season. Some games were close but the girls came away with only one win. Since they only had one senior, Janet Witte, the underclassmen saw a lot of action. The team is looking forward to next year because their enthusiasm won’t let them quit trying. RVL Honorable mention went to Sheryl Paisley. Mary Druse takes action to help Janet. Girls’ track team runs the inside lane Many personal improvements were seen this year in girls’ track. Coached by Mrs. Shifflet, the girls worked hard at practices and gave it their “all” at meets. The District track meet at Lexington saw the 3200m relay team, composed of Jill Gaskill, Ann Dana, Karen Shroeder, and Liz Liess, beat the old Cambridge record with the time of 11.09.2. Jill Gaskill also earned the school record in the open 3200m run at RVL at Alma, with the time of 14.05.0. This year’s team was a very young one, and with more experience and hard work, it is felt, the girls’ team will look forward to a more competitive season. 8heryl 8tine prepare for the 3200m run State tracksters work long and hard For the 1982-83 track season two of the boys made it to the State Track Meet, David Minnick and Blaise Leiss, David, who is a senior and went last year also, went in the long jump. Blaise, a junior, went for the first time. He ran the two mile. Both failed to place in their events, but we still feel they did a good job just getting there! The girls track team failed to qualify in any event. Blaise Leiss puts his best foot forward in the two-mile run. 37 Giving it his all is David Minnick in the long jump. The 1982-83 school year at CHS has come to a close, but in our hearts it will never end. We will always remember not only the good times but also the bad, the hellos and goodbyes, the winning and the losing, the laughing and crying, the homework and the tests, the learning and the cramming, the dances and gradua- tion, our friends and teachers. Most of all we will remember and cherish the memories of the time we spent at good ole Cambridge High School. Like the sands through the hourglass so are the days of our lives at CHS.
