The year didn’t have many highlights but, Rob Druse was awarded first team All-State class C-2 and All-conference honorable mention. Jeff Hageman, the only senior on the team, contributed much to the team. Because there was only one senior on the team, the Trojans will be looking forward to next year. A high point of the season was the Freshman and Sophomores who won their own tournament here at Cambridge. Hopefully their depth will help the team have a successful season next year. The Trojans also had two RVL All-Conference honor- able mention players, Vince Chitwood and David Minnick, both of whom will be returning next year. The school gym also received a new look at the end of the season when the State Bank donated two new scoreboards that were much needed. The 1981-82 Girls Basketball team, coached by Mr. Haase, consisted of a large squad, mainly young players. Having more depth than the previous year, the team still experienced a difficult season. The girls came away with their first victory against Holbrook. Earlier in the year they played an exceptional game against Elwood, which ended in a triple overtime. Elwood grasped the victory, but it was a well played game for the Cambridge girls. In the bunny-round of Districts Cambridge took revenge and defeated the Elwood Pirates. They then fell to a tough Maywood club, which ended their season. A majority of the team will return next year, with the exception of four seniors. 1-year letterman Tammy Monroe, 3-year letterman Kim Jones, 4-year letterman Julie Palmer, and 4-year letterman Alison Sexton. Alison was named to First Team RVL and received Honorable Mention All State. These girls contributed much effort to the team throughout their years at CHS. Kim Jones thinks about a fast break. Trojan Golfers leave footprints of victory The Trojan Golf Team competed in eight golf meets this year and stepped away with four victories won at Cambridge, Wauneta, Trenton, and the District Tournament, while receiving a second place trophy, and a third place trophy at Lawrence. Other Trojan finishes were fourth at the Franklin Invitational, and fifth at the State Tournament at Frank- lin. The Trojan linksters set a new CHS record by having three people capture the first place individual medal this season, these linksters being Rocky at Cambridge and Districts, Steve at Wauneta, and Tom at Trenton. Rocky won a total of six medals, Steve five, Tom four, and Mike and Jim one. Bruce and Chuck also contributed to the Trojan cause in many tournaments, and they were rewarded for their efforts at the Franklin Reserve Tournament where they each received a medal leading the reserves to a second place finish. The drum majors were Juniors Janet Witte and Val Brown. The twirlers and drum majors attended the Cassavant Camp held during the summer to help prepare them for the upcoming events. During the school year they par- ticipated in marching parades and entertained during football and basketball halftimes. The paper was non-profit and distributed to both the elementary and high school students. The paper featured articles on grades K-12 and other stories that might interest the students. The paper was not just one classes project but staffed on a volunteer basis by those interested in writing. Some articles were submitted by the students themselves. The staff would like to thank Mr. Oaskill who offered advice and help, Val Potorson who suggested the name and the Cambridge Highlights sponsors: Mr. Tompkins and Mrs. Hoffman, who helped whenever help was needed. When Cambridge Highlights was formed, many people thought that eventually it would die out. Well it didn’t and hopefully the paper will become a tradition at C.H.S. The staff generally enjoyed working on the paper and during the second year of the paper it is hoped that the staff will be larger. The time they had looked forward to for many years was finally here - graduation. There were both smiles of joy and tears of sadness as they looked forward to the future, but said goodbye to good friends and mem- ories. “We dare to do what we dare to dream” was the class motto. The class colors were blue and yellow and the class flower was the yellow rose. Doris Hansen and Tom Patterson were the junior escorts.
