SENfOR CLASS In the wonderful year of1950, thirteen little angels formed the very first kindergarten class of the Cambridge Public Schools. They were Connie Allen, Connie Bible, Butch Johnson, Sandy Newcomb, Suzy Kester. Harb Stanton, Bill Phillips, Paul Sayer. Bob Roberts, Paul Zabel, Deraid Sayer, Joan Trumble. and Joe Beals. We all remember that great year of eating graham crackers, taking naps, and getting A's in “Sand Pile. Several others joined us in the first grade, including Bob O'Brien, Virginia Allen. Steve Purinton, Gary Freeborn, Gloria Joseph, and Jim Martin. Gary Joseph journeyed in from the farm in the third grade, and Winnie Jareske arrived in the fourth. After several eventful years of class picnics and operettas and spirited games of girls-chase-the-boys (and vice-versa), we progressed to Junior High where June Steele and Kathy Finke increased our number. We enjoyed a gay round of dances and parties in our eighth grade year. At last we became lowly Freshmen and were joined by several of our country cousins, namely Pearl Allen, Nancy Burke, Roger “dimples Farr, Harold fingers Banzhaf. and Ron ho-ho-ho Miller. Our Freshman project was a car wash which, though not a hugely successful one, was great fun for us. Bicycle races were also held that day. Rod Bush joined us as a Sophomore, and we held a very successful Penny Arcade that year. We made an unprecedented profit because of our tremendous effort and work! As “upperclassmen, we arrived at our Junior year when Sharon Mannlein increased our number. This year held many good times for us. We presented our first class play. “The Ghoul Friend, in December and received our class rings as a reward for an excellent performance. But best of all were the Prom parties- er-meetings which found us kicking up our heels and overturning in kiddie trains. Our beautiful and successful Prom “Bali Hai was well-worth all our efforts and was declared the “best ever by all. Besides this, it was first all-night Prom in C.H.S. including a show and a breakfast at Kester's after which most of us watched the sunrise. A memorable night indeed! And so was the groggy week after!! And at long last came that wonderful fall of 1961 when we finally reached the elevation of SENIORS! We were both happy and sad, always remembering that we were participating in many 'lasts --football, basketball, track, pep club, band, and all the fun of high school. Mack Backhaus tore himself away from the great little metropolis of Holbrook to join us. Our Senior pictures were taken and all turned out very well--and very flattering. We again demonstrated our dramatic efforts in our hilarious Senior class play, “Hillbilly Weddin. Because of our popularity and much-publicized talent, we played to a packed house which fully appreciated the production. Too bad there weren't some talent scouts in the audience. Through a maze of term papers (which most of us would rather forget than remember), annual staff meetings, contest practices (Continued on Page 16)

(Continued from Page 14) and banquets, we neared the close of our high school days. We were guests of honor at the Junior's hot-dog feed which they chose to call a banquet and Prom. Seriously, their Prom, “Gone With The Wind,'' was a beautiful one. Of course, it didn't compare to ours, but we all enjoyed it and appreciated their hard work. We also enjoyed the show and breakfast at Johnson's after which we sleepily watched a beautiful sunrise at the lake. Then, at last, came Baccalaureate and Commencement--our last activities. Of course they brought rain, but we were too dazed with the wonder of actually graduating to notice. But though we now leave the halls of C. H. S., we will never forget all the fun and happy times we have had here, especially as a class--the best class ever--the CLASS OF 1962!! The following poem was written about our class by a Junior, Ed Heilman. Thus my children have you read the tale of a class which is no wise dead. 31 students of C. H. S. having knowledge stupendous, nothing less. There's tall Connie Allen with dignified air, gay Joani, possessor of golden hair, Butch who plays a silver comet, Gary Freeborn about books refuses to fret. Obeey who constantly wears a smile, which can be seen for nearly a mile. Pinke Roberts, the football star, Steve whose wisdom is known near and far. Virginia an excellent typist is she, June expects a stem teacher to be. Joe has a manner quiet and staid, Connie Bible, most friendly, a true Senior maid. To Harb, worry is something absurd, Zabe is really quite a lovebird. Roger whose dimples we find most charming, Bill, whose interests, we're told, lies in farming. Pearl by office accounts is quite undismayed, Sandy, pensive or smiling, a lovable maid. Suzy delights in frolic and glee. Mack has a wit most delightfully free. And tall Paul Sayer who by nature is quiet, Kathy's actions are almost a riot. Miller, the boy with the hog-calling fame, Gary Joseph, a partner, very soon will claim. Singing Gloria, so gay, yet demure, Rodney, a helper, you may always be sure. Nancy and Willie, sedately inclined, Harold likes his book, out of sight, out of mind. Deraid’s up to something most time, to be sure, Jim’s delight is the Whopper burger. Fun-loving Sharon, a true Senior lass, completes the number of this illustrious class.
