May 20, 1963 Denver, Colorado Dear Ernie, I was very glad to hear from you and sorry I didn’t get around to answering sooner. Thad is much better, but it’s kept me pretty busy taking care of him and keeping Ted from wrecking the house. Yes, Charlie is still working on the railroad. He was promoted to engineer on the “Skyway” last month. We flew to Chicago last fall for the championship football game between the Bears and the Tigers. I could hardly believe my eyes when Iread the line-up------Francis Brown was playing right guard for the Bears! He played a darned good game, too. I ran into another old class-mate while we were there. Thelma and her husband were down from Wisconsin to the game. They really have a wonderful dairy farm up there. I believe she said they have 33 Jersey’s and three children. There was one more surprise in store for me on that trip--the head hostess on the plane coming home was none other than Dixie Williams. She’s quitting her job this spring to marry the pilot. Say, Dixie told me that on her last flight to South America one of the passengers was old Leon O’Brien. He and his bride were enroute to Cuba where he is now stationed as Commander-in-Chief of a big army base. They stopped in Florida for repairs and were there long enough to take in the midget auto races at Daytona Beach. Larry Paisley pulled in first in the finals. It was his first big race with the “jet- mobile ’ he designed. Jan Coba wrote me a nice long letter a few weeks ago. She landed a swell job last year modeling for the famous Conover Agency in New York and now she’s engaged to Harry Conover III. I always had a feeling that girl would go places. She said she had a long talk with Jean Conlin a few days before she wrote me. Jean is teaching speech and dramatics at Vassar; she, too, is sporting a big “sparkler” now. I saw in the paper the other day that Jim Lemmon was appointed head veterinarian for the Armed Forces and is stationed permanently in Washington D.C. He and Janet and their four children will have a great time there. Mom sent me a clipping from the World Herald about Pee Wee (Kenneth) Cross. He is the con- struction engineer for the Eisenhower Dam that is to be started this year in Oklahoma. I sure hope Virginia will like it down there. Her two little girls will see to it that she has plenty to keep her busy. I’ll bet. Now let me see, is that about everybody? Oh, yes, Donna Rauch is right here in Denver. She married her boss at the Cleanrite Laundry and is now busy raising their own set of triplets and two sets of twins. And Bill Flint is now a lifeguard at the municipal swimming pool in San Diego. He says that’s the best place he could think of to settle down and watch for the girl of his dreams. Well, I guess that takes care of everyone. Remember to let me know when you’re coming out. See ya, Shirley Hilton SHIRLEY HILTON------My athletic activities to June Sable. ERNESTINE F IDLER------My jeans and slacks to Twila Way man. JAN COBA-------My “natural” blond hair to Denny Overndon.
