Students in this program benefit from individualized instruction and are challenged to learn according to their individual needs and abilities. This in turn, in- creases success, enhances self-concept, and fosters independence. There is an emphasis on learning and exhibiting functional skills both in school and in the community. Students practice learned behavior that is useful for daily living. Curriculum and instruction also contribute to provide a smooth transition from school to adult life as students leave the school program. 112
