Principal CECIL J. MCFARLAND Denison University, A.B. Ohio State University, M.A. There may be schools just as good, but there are none better than Cambridge High School. ,4S4Zc4t'e.. At the close of this school year, our prin- cipal, Mr. Cecil J. McFarland, will assume his new position as Assistant Superintendent of the Cambridge City School System, dividing his time between the supervision of instruction on the secondary level, and procurement. Mr. McFarland began his teaching career in the Cambridge schools in 1934. He taught general science and physics from 1934 to 1942 and then served in the armed forces for four years. Returning to Cambridge High School, he taught chemistry and physics from 1946 to 1952, and was Guidance Director and chemistry instructor from 1952 to 1954. ln 1954 he was named Principal of Cambridge High School. During the time Mr. McFarland has served as principal, our high school has grown from a three-year high school with an enrollment of 533 to a four-year high school with an enroll- ment of 1100. In keeping with the larger enrollment, our faculty has increased from 29 to 54, many new departments have been added, and more modern and efficient methods have been adopted. Many of the changes came when the new high school building was built, and the smooth transition to the new situation was largely because of the careful planning, the meticulous attention to details, and the thoughtful concern for students and teachers, which are characteristic of Mr. McFarland. Among our fond memories of Mr. McFarland, one teacher remarked, is his unt1agging enthusiasm for Cambridge High School. He sincerely believes, and has worked day and night to make sure, that There may be schools just as good, but there are none better than Cambridge High School. Students will long remember his helpfulness in assisting them to solve their problems and his faithful attendance at extra curricular events. In the words of one student - Mr. McFarland is the man who has made Cambridge High School rise to new heights. He is looked up to and respected by every student. He knows how to handle students and can give out better know how than any teacher in the high school. He will be missed at Cambridge High. Teachers will remember Mr. McFarland as one who was never too busy to listen to their problems, said one faculty member. Although we wish him success in his new position, we of the faculty and student body will miss his presence as administrator at Cambridge High School. Thus we salute a fine leader and a sincere friend. . . and wish for him success and a deep satisfaction in his new position. SIXTEEN
