Wf7.tWlf1f6f0fV 6'0ZffVfY The termrnatlon of league play thrs year found the Indlans possessmg a ll 1 record ln the league and 1n the number one slot Thrs rnagnlflcent record enabled the boys of Coach Iohn Herbert to represent the Washmgton County League as 1lS Class D entry rn the Sectxonals ln the quarter flnals at Saratogas Conventron Hall the boys of CCS downed Warrensburg 63 59 ln the semr fmals the overt1me vlctory went to Berne Knox the wln the1r 26th rn a row Overall the Indlans rolled up an envrable 164 record Capturmg f1rst place 1n the league bestowed on the school an honor that had been absent for over fifteen years The laurel of vrctory was not eas1ly come by Under the capable leadershlp of Coach Herbert the boys put forth a real team effort and f1ne sp1r1t throughout the campalgn Polse and polrsh 1mproved w1th every game and 1n the seasons flnale agalnst Hoosrc Valley the qumtet gave the followers a game they w1ll long remember It was a tr1bute to Coach Herbert s pat1ent effort and the hard work of the team Four sen1ors compnsed the startmg f1ve Duke Nennstlel 68 center was the boy who put the ball through the net the mostest Brede led the scor1ng parade 1n the league mustermg 245 po1nts ln the 12 games Don Record wlth reflexes of a cat provlded many crowd pleastng ant1cs h1t consrstently rn the double numbers and could be counted on when the gomg got toughest Our next senror Iohn Pemnck h1t the double fxgures but twzce however rn lookmg over the scor 1ng books rt lS easy to see that No 12 of C C S was by far the outstandmg defensrve man 1n the league When Iohnny was assrgned to guard a man 1t was certam that someones scor1ng average was gomg to drop Dave Herrlngton the lxttle man on the startmg five possessed a fine set shot and could take advantage of any lapse on the part of the defense Coach Herbert took great P1965 ure rn watchmg Daves effort to rmprove pay off rn each succeedmg game The frfth berth on the team was shared by Larry Decker and Iohn Bell Larry a junxor came a great nrght agamst arch nval Salem as he h1t 19 po1nts Iohn Bell a sophomore takes away some of the glum surround1ng s1x lettermen s graduatmg Iohn possesses a fme one hander and should be a great asset 1n the years to come The second stnng the boys who made 1t tough for the startmg frve in practrce also proved very capable 1n rehevmg the startmg frve rn the actual contests Bruce Wands hm Lull Leroy Anderson and Frank Cnstaldx are four lunlors that Mr Herbert w1ll be glad to see come back next November Also ln the welcome mrdst shall be Dzck Record a very capable sophomore who played plenty of ball thxs wmter Tony Olff speedy forward and Drck Gremmger aggressive guard were two senlors who drsplayed plenty of Splfll when called on by Coach Herbert to spell hrs regulars Throughout the season the prel1m1nary contests offered the spectators many excxtrng mo- ments The I V s under the able tutelage of Coach Nrck Nrchols racked up 10 vrctones agcunst 8 defeats Several of the losses were by small margrns and the Young Indxans never farled to go all out w1n or lose The returnmg varslty men for the 1957 58 season are sure to recexve plenty of competmon from such IV standouts as Al Kerskr lvan Purdy Drck Wulff B111 Nygard Don Vltello Ioey OMal ley These boys as IS true rn the case of all the boys that play under Mr Nlchols are bound to be an asslstance 1n a1d1ng Coach Herbert ma1nta1n a Wlnnlng team and wmnmg sp1r1t at CCS Our overall record of 164 plus the league champronshlp makes us real proud We thank smcerely our wonderful coach our great team our beautrful and talented cheerleaders and therr coach and our managers We would also hke to acknowledge our most capable txmer and scorer Mr Ken Wllbur and Mr Iohn Brlggs respectrvely To you Coach Herbert, we w1sh contxnued success to you Our Senlors God speed and never forget boys the lmportance of spmt effort and team play 1n the game of l1fe A546-'lf 6WAWP!0A'.t' I I ' . , . . .
