Mr. Donald Glass served as the Guidance Counselor at Central Cambria for nearly four years, guiding the student body on an individual basis with a devotion and understanding that is sincerely missed. By the reduc- tion of its membership to nine, the Board achieved greater efficiency and cooperation than ever before. Meeting once a month, this group of civic- minded men made decisions concerning not only Central Cambria High School but also the elementary schools in the district. L. to R.-Joseph D. COOK Mr. Cook will he remembered by many of us as a firm administrator end also as a true friend. Having been associated with our school for twenty-eight years-seventeen as a teacher and athletic coach and nine as high school principal-Mr. Cook has the experience and insight necessary for working with today's youth. SUPERINTENDENT JJ HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL MR. LEROY DEBASTIANI Mr. DeBastiani, a dedicated educator, has served our school well. As a teacher and an athletic coach, he gained experience through his association with stu- dents in the classroom and on the playing field. Now, as an administrator, Mr. DeBastiani has proven his capability by looking after the interests of both the faculty and student body of Central Cambria. f ' L 4-vu I I E GLISH The purposes of our language are communication and self-expression. Students need guidance and assist- ance in order to discuss and present their ideas and opinions. Thus the faculty of our English department strove to help each student develop his speaking and writing potentials. Included in the general curriculum were grammar, spelling, literature, composition, and li- brary science. Music and art appreciation classes, as well as advanced English Composition were added fea- tures for college-bound seniors. Whether a graduate from C.C.H.S. would go on to college or enter the busi- ness world, he would be well versed in the comrnuni- cative arts. --v-f'. '- L 5 . To do this, the curriculum gave a basic background of the his- tories and governments of different countries of the world. These were studied in world history classes and compared to our own country's historical origin and development in American history classes. In POD governmental theories were discussed, an- alyzed, and criticized. Paul Seymour, A.B.fProb1ems of Democracy Xffim Bernice J. According to the number of Latin classes, the answer is no.', Many students took Latin as a preparatory course for Spanish or French or as a cultural enrichment course. French and Spanish did not take a back seat to Latin, however. More students than ever before were enrolled in these courses. The language lab was in use seven periods a day by both French and Spanish students. Those who completed any of the three language courses offered entered college with a basal background in their respective subject. Cust S. The stunning decorations trans- formed our drab halls into a sparkling display to between-class- walkers. On the last day before Christmas vacation, the mixed chorus caroled through the halls. Many homerooms contributed to the festivities by joining in the annual homeroom door dec- orating contest. The cho- ruses and band entertained students and parents with the Spring Festival. In the Awards Assembly, outstanding students were given recognition for their accom- plishments. The students enjoyed the pres- entation of the Oracle. The Senior Banquet, girls' tea, and Baccalaureate were held. Then, the day we had been anticipating for years finally arrived. The senior class graduated with pride, performing at once the closing act to years of preparation and the overture to life to come. C3 SJ TJ Q 1719.1- NM. L ..?- r f 'fi X i ff l . From among the student body, thirteen girls were selected as fitting representa- tives, symbolizing the youth and vitality that is so characteristic of our generation. But it was not in May that these girls got the first thrill of knowing they were to participate! From freshman attendant to May Queen, the names of those fortunate thirteen were announced by Mr. DeBastiani in a special student assembly in February. The processional was followed by a program co-ordinated in honor of the court by a former May Queen, Miss Kay Sowolla. Entertained and glowing with pride, the stunning girls left the stage and prepared for the dance that was sponsored for their enjoyment by the Varsity Club. ,531 - ... f ' X'T-- F 3- ? The statistics of the record book do not relate the courage, fortitude, and drive of our boys who fought so hard for us. It is true our Devils weren't successful, but they gained respect by taking defeat courageously-sportsmanship de- mands courage to accept the worst. Among the nine games our team fought through, the most mem- orable was the last game, Central Cambria vs. Central HS. Torrents of rain turned the playing field into a mass of green mush, and the game proceeded accordingly. An impres- sive ceremony honoring the senior band members was spoiled by the imposing weather. A good turn-out of track candidates reported when the call was issued. We are proud of the accomplishments of the two mile relay team and the field men-shot, dis- cus, and javelin-who placed at almost every meet. At the Cambria Heights relay meet t.he Red Devils broke the shot and javline recordg while at the United Invitational Meet, they broke the shot record.
