Tha-y promote good sportsmanship and athletics. Spring trzu-lc events are among the most exciting. The Voziclies' Meet, Tri-County Meet, and the District Mm-I, zirf- sonic oi' the events the boys participated in. Some oi' the activities taking place at the events were the throw of the javclin, the pole vault, the 880-yard relay and others. Getting together for a good game of basketball are the Key Club boys. Here the boys are practicing a few foul shots before a game with the Shop boys. The Key Club played every other Thursday night. A full schedule of activities kept the Shop De- partment boys pretty well occupied and physically fit. These fellows met each Monday night and played intramurals with the other clubs in the school. The Ag basketball players, twelve in number, also added their skill to the intramurals. Most of the boys who did not take part in the major sports find it very exciting in helping their clubs win by adding their skill. The minor sports help to promote co-operation throughout the entire student body. , E 1 If I, f .1 xx f s .,k. Any volunteers? By the looks of the target someone had a few beginners luck shots. This year was the first that archery was introduced to both the girls and boys gym classes. Shoot! Shoot! No that isn't cheers coming from a shooting gallery, it's only the girls in the process of playing a very exciting basketball game, Carolyn, that was unfair! Don't you think you had an advantage of being just a little taller than Elizabeth? ' Bottom picture shows the girls in another phase of the sports perfonned in the gym classes. Volleyball proved to be a very exciting' undertaking this year. Ex- cept for a few bumps on the head or noses, everyone came out of the intramurals, that were played among the home rooms, feeling very happy or feeling sportsman- likc-:,iwhatever the case might have been. The Sock Hop was next and everyone checked his shoes instead of his coat, and presented his flashiest socks, The Pigskin Turkey, held at the end of the football season, honored the varsity members, who worked so hard trying to bring the bacon home each week. Q With this class motto in their minds, the seniors L will reach their soon-to-be realized goals in the very near future. From the largest freshman class in the history of ECHS, the present graduating class has dwindled to 154 students, preparing to face the 1ife's problems. Although some may feel rather secure about their futures and others seem to be uncertain as to what they will choose as their life's work, in due time it will come out accordingly for everyone. The colors, blue and gold, signify the pride and glory which the seniors have main- tained as goals, throughout the four years. The class flowers, snapdragons, also was a good 9 example of the students' eager and enthusiastic partici- pation in all the exciting activities of the school. High School friendships soon will sever, and fade as does the dying day. This brief line taken from the Alma Mater potrays the sentiments of the diploma bearers. These pictures show the seniors as a unit, perhaps for the final time. Those absent at the time the pictures were taken were Vivian Semelsberger, Alan Griffith, Janet Nyland, Clair Farabaugh, and Frank Hresko. M 2 tl Q ll Xxx xx 1 'Xxx Row One 4 H. Fresh- man Chorus held the fort with twenty-two of the freshman girls. Future Farmers of America came in second with eighteen of the freshman boys. Seventeen boys were represented in football. The Tri-Hi-Y's made a gain by taking in a total number of thirty girls, Alpha getting the highest number of twelve. Gamma, one of the newest Tri-Hi-Y's, llgadt eight to be inducted, leaving the total of six to Beta and four to e a. To make up for the senior band members who graduated last year, the band took in twelve new musical freshman. The Junior Science Club admitted five new Einsteins while the Michaelangelo Club, or Art Club, had three new members. The Library Club admitted three new bookworms to their association. The mixed chorus was the least represented with only two new songbirds. They were also eager par- ticipants in the many parties, dances, and in the extra-curricular ac- tivities of the school. In 1957 when the seniors, now freshman, will walk down the aisle to receive the most important piece of paper ever handed during their four years at ECHS, their diploma, perhaps they will realize how important their high-school training will be for their future years in Whatever line of work they plan to do in the world. As have the other classes before us, we have enjoyed the privileges and advantages of superior guidance. We probably have not realized the factors that so greatly influ- ence the four very important years that we spent here. Planning for us and guiding us from that day when we entered these doors as freshmen until we reached the final goal, graduation, have been the school board, faculty, and our commander in chief, Mr. Johnston. We Wish to thank these 'important leaders for making our four years here so well spent and enjoyable.
