1966 HIGHLANDER presented by the Senior Class CAMBRIA HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL We, the class of 1966, wish to make this edition, of the Highlander one filled with memories of our senior year. We will look back proudly at our football team which be- came the Mountain Conference champions. We will remember all our activities including band, drill team, senior play, chorus, and basketball games. We will never forget that High- lander spirit that carried us through good and bad days. We will always be grateful to our teachers for their pa- tience and guidance. Foreword And, as a permanent remem- brance, we present, in pictures —“The Best Year of our Lives”. Table of Contents Dedication 4 Administration 5 Faculty 9 Seniors 15 Juniors 39 Sophomores 47 Favorites 55 Athletics 61 Organizations 71 Activities 79 Dedication The seniors of Cambria Heights High School proudly dedicate this edition of The Highlander to Mr. Donald T. Resko. Mr. Resko has brought young, new, invigorating ideas to our school. He graduated from St. Vincent’s College, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, in 1951 and obtained his Master’s Degree in Chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University in 1956. Beginning his teaching career in the Reade Township High School, he came to Patton High School, now a part of the Cambria Heights school system, in 1953 as a chemistiy teacher. He became principal of the Cambria Heights High School in 1964. To this very dedicated man we offer our 1966 Highlander. Supervising Principal Hugo E. Vivadelli It is with a deep feeling of satisfaction that I write for the first time, in this your yearbook. The Highlander. I would like to leave one thought with you in so far as we, the ad- ministration and faculty, are concerned. The greatest satis- faction that can come to each of us entrusted with your de- velopment during your high school days is to learn one day that you have developed fully your capabilities. With the grace of God, this can be attained. Good luck to all of you 'j-j'tjLtra U -cjouILSIJLLi 6 High School Principal Donald T. Resko The class of 1966 is facing greater challenges than any class preceding them in the history of our public schools, but they also face multiple opportunities for a better standard of living and personal success. I believe as a class you are capable and willing to accept this challenge that the world offers today. While I compliment you on your attainment as high school students, I extend my best wishes for a happy and prosperous life. Board of Education SEATED, left to right: Dr. Edward J. Urich. To the seniors, it will never be the same. For we shall always remember seeing him in the halls or standing in the office. His death affected each person in a different way. Some shed tears while others were shocked and found the fact hard to believe. Al- though he shall be sadly missed by all, we shall remember him for what he stood for—the education of young people. The representative’s job is to go to the meetings and report to his homeroom what the Council is doing to better Cambria Heights. The Student Council sponsors a new project each year. This year, several weeks before Christmas, they gathered a variety of canned goods and foodstuffs to be distributed to the needy families throughout the Cambria Heights School District. In order to raise money for this project, the Council held a Christmas dance. Some of the other activities of the Student Council are the Red Cross campaign, the homeroom bulletin boards, the decoration of the cafeteria during the holidays and the sale of pennants and booster badges for our sports activities. The mere existence of the Student Council has brought forth a better Cambria Heights. The entire student body should be proud of this organization. The seniors want to thank Mr. Karolchik for the time he donates to his student council activities. 73 Plaid Talk Newspaper Staff SEATED, left to right: Gary Benny, Editor-in-Chief; William Gormish, Managing Editor. As we come to the close of our last year in Cambria Heights, we begin to look a- head to future years, but mem- ories of the past will not be pushed aside. The time and effort spent on learning, the fun of sports and activities, and all the little things which make up memories that will last a lifetime, are preserved forever in our hearts. All Highlanders will remem- ber the wild excitement of the first touchdown of the season, the casual moments of con- versation with friends, and the countless hours of study both in and out of classes. Upon graduating each of us take a part of Cambria Heights with us; but Cambria Heights retains more than has been taken away. Farewell Now as you go on your sepa- rate ways, not knowing if hap- piness or sorrow will cross your path, hold the thoughts of your days spent in Cambria Heights as the happiest of your life. 96 •
