college introduction academic life social life the people se ' nary 3 in situations of relative values, one is often forced to choose between goods, to emphasize that which he feels to be most important at the expense of another good. in a school such as calvin where the total is somehow greater than the mere sum of its parts, individuals and organizations assume their greatest importance when viewed as an aspect of that totality. the 1961 prism is an attempt to express this rela- tion between the part and the whole, an attempt to View the part in the light of the whole. unable to do more, and hoping at least to do this, the impor- tance of the part as such has been largely overlooked in def- erence to the importance of the whole.
