it is never an easy thing to express gratitude-words are so futile when measured by the deeds they seek to honor. particularly this is true when we attempt to show our appreciation for a career which has extended for more years than some of us have lived, and than any of us have been permitted to share here at calvin. ours is an op- portunity to recognize the service which, for the past twenty-two years, has been given to calvin college by Dr. Richard Drostg we undertake to do so with humility, but encouraged by the knowledge that he will be as sympathetic with our present failings as he has been with them in the past. as professor of history, as a sponsor of campus organizations, as director of chapel activities, and perhaps more than any of these, as a friend and personal advisor whose sincerity and warmth were immediately and constantly apparent, Dr. Drost has well merited the affection with which this year's prism is dedicated to him. 18

N registration, the mechanics of academics, begins the year, and amidst the confusion of just being settled, comes the unsettling realization that chapel is required, that classes simply are not scheduled just for you. Waiting in the bookstore line provides a long acquaintance with the basement ceiling, with the chewy contents of the canteen, and the publications office door. the gymnastics of registration are properly situated in the gym. classes, coffee-breaks, and the long endurance prior to a degree all are calculated here, where the class-card reigns. 17
