HE 1954 PRI' Calvin College is a great idea. Calvin College is the idea of exploring all fields of human learning from a distinctively Christian viewpoint- the idea of studying physics, political science, art, K all in their relation to Christ- . the idea of eleven hundred students and teachers living together in a milieu C which is Christiafil-ethe idea of relating every fact of life to a basic principle, to a sovereign God. But the greatest idea about Calvin College is an intangible and an invisible one. It is the idea on which Calvin College was founded in 1876 and the idea on which it still exists in 1954. That idea is a dynamic faith in a living God. Words and pictures aid in depicting an idea. This book is an attempt to express and interpret the idea of Calvin College.

DEDICATIO YVe call them i'Pop and Mom and actually it makes little difference that their names are Mr. and Mrs. Martin Schreur. Pop and Mom are the head cooks at the Commons and yet their position is much more than that. The position could be hard work without humor-they have both: it could be efficiency without friendliness-they have both: it could be drudgery but it never seems to be for Pop and Mom. For they have found that unique and priceless jewel called Contentment. They have found in the School of Life that which we students are attempting to discover in the School of Learning. Because you are living examples and teachers of true stewardship, we, your students, dedicate this book to you.
