FOREWORD To be a true mirror for the reflection of the student life and activity of Calvin College and Seminary, to place in bold relief the diversity of interests which serve as an avenue of enrichment for the life of every student, to be a book of pleasant recollections, one which will be a permanent remembrance of the spirit of good fellowship pervading our school: such has been the purpose of the staff in publishing the Prism in our Diamond Jubilee Year. Calvin College and Seminary is now seventy-five years old and our task in depicting this year of celebration has been an honorable and a pleasant one. We of the staff, with you, the students, faculty and supporters of our College and Seminary are humbly proud of Calvin's development and enduring strength during the past seventy-five years. Throughout years in which the world round about Us has been boiling and seething like a witch's caldron, Calvin, by divine Grace, has remained sternly staunch. Now, in l95l, when great and mighty institutions, built up laboriously throughout the ages, are standing on insecure ground, Calvin College and Seminary, with the strength of the Almighty to guide it, faces a protected future. We are truly thankful to God for our glorious history, for this happy Diamond Jubilee Year, and for a bright future of continued development. In this spirit of humble pride, sincere thankfulness, and prayerful antici- pation the Diamond Jubilee Prism was published, may it be received in the same spirit. li MU' ron MANY 'EAM i WW: coufaf IN THE 1 BB' us IN PERSONNW fa ft couwsfulna US, AW 'nl g mls vm, BECAUSE of u TAKESWSMGN AND NOW lvft '? :Nia me uvat Of Cds!!! ln this year of iubilee n pm . A Tribute FOR MANY YEARS PRESIDENT SCHULTZE HAS SERVED THE INTERESTS OF OUR CHURCH AND COLLEGE IN THE PULPIT, THROUGH HIS WRITINGS, AND IN THE SCHOOL. HE HAS BEEN WITH US IN PERSON NOW FOR ELEVEN YEARS AS OUR PRESIDENT, ENCOURAGING US, GUIDING AND COUNSELLING US, AND ASSISTING US THROUGH THE PERIOD OF EDUCATIONAL GROWTH. THIS YEAR, BECAUSE OF PHYSICAL HANDICAPS, PRESIDENT HENRY SCHULTZE HAS RESIGNED AND NOW TAKES HIS PLACE IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COLLEGE. PRESIDENT SCHULTZE HAS LIVED INTO THE LIVES OF MANY STUDENTS7 HE WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE IN OUR MEMORY. Called To The Colors In this year of iubilee we pause as our thoughts turn to those who have left the college halls during this School year to fight that the free world might not be destroyed. We think particularly of Ray Baas, reported missing in action. We think of those who are now on the fighting front, risking their lives that ours might be saved. We think of those who have recently lefty the sad memories of their departure are still fresh. We think of the many who are yet to be called to the colors. May Almighty God be with them all. For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all fhy ways. Psalm 91:11 . 7
