igfkiilhklif ' It is only with pleasure that we pause to pay tribute to President Schultze. To the student body it is very evident that our president is a man who has walked with God many times. Like Moses of old, his face, his speech, and his life still shine in reflection of the glor Y he has seen of his Master. It is reflected in his humilit Y and kindness, his gentle humor, and his sincere friend- liness. It is easy to bring our problems to him for we are sure that our problems will become his and will arouse his interest in our trouble. We know that we can bring our shortcomings to him with the assurance that he will not condemn and s will sympathize with us and aid us when our regret is real. His kindly smile makes him in the halls, his delightfully spontaneous sense of humor makes a talk with hi man lifted above the level C. nity of his position, he is lifted above them by his humility and deep spirituality. iB1fe51iJent5 essage GREETINGS TO THE STUDENTS: A Your heritage, bequeathed unto you by your parents and strengthened by your college, is the most precious thing that you possess. The preciousness of a thing is usually determined by two consider- ations, namely, its rarity and the service that it can render. We are now living in a world that is morally bankrupt. The effects of the sinful hearts of men have been augmented by the war. Honor and honesty are forgotten virtues. We can give to the impoverished nations across the waters everything from shoes to heifers, but we can't give them what they need most. They need sound thinking and clean, living. We can't give them these because they are such scarce. articles here in our own country. ' You have, by the grace of God, these values. Precious jewels they are, in a field as wide as the world, strewn with useless rocks and stones. Treasure these jewels and share them with those who are our brothers and sisters across the seas. ' Then, again, what you have received is so precious because it can render inestimable service in a world that has no hope and no God. If it is peace that the world wants and needs, you have the values that can bring that blessing. All the peace conferences, attended by the most brilliant states- men, are as nothing compared with the teachings of God when it comes to bringing peace to the hearts of men. If it is happiness that men seek, you have that which alone can bring joy unspeakable to a people sad and despairing. If it is hope that should be given to them, you have in your possession the only hope of the world. Surely, there has never been a time when young people such as you could be of greater service under God. Who knoweth but what you may have come into the kingdom for just such a time as this! May you never be found wanting! Cordially yours, 19
