The 1982 football campaign was not a cham- pionship season, but it was a successful one, con- cluding with a 6-3-1 mark, In the first game of the year, Calvert captured a come-Hom-behind win over arch-rival Mohawk. The dog soldier defense limited the Warriors to a mere 84 yards of total offense. ln the next game Calvert was up against the Loudenville Redbirds. Loudenville looked impres- sive throughout the first three quarters of play, but the Senecas refused to fold. With just 1:15 lek on the clock, Calvert marched 84 yards and scored the game-tying touchdown. The game ended 21-21. Calvertls 'never say die style ofplay was appar- ent the following week. They once again came from behind to derail a determined Lima Central Catholic team 14-13. The Senecas suffered a setback the following week to the Pliers of Clyde. It was close, but the powerful Clyde team managed to edge Calvert 14- Z The team then traveled north to take on the Huron Tigers. The Huron aerial circus proved to be too much for Calvert. Huron clipped the Senecas 28-7. The following week Calvert responded with a big win over the Port Clinton Redskins. Then the Sen- ecas invaded Sandusky Perkins territory and came away with a heartbreaking 0-12 defeat. Calvert handily disposed of Fremont St. joe 17-6 in hont of an enthusiastic Homecoming crowd. They displayed yet another gallant effort at Castalia Margaretta the next week, In a come-Hom-behind win Calvert beat the Polar Bears 16-7. In the final game of the season, and perhaps the most explosive game of the year, Calvert overcame three turnovers to bottle the St. Marys Panthers 25- 8. The Senecas thus finished a season which saw both highs and lows, The fight and determination they showed will long be remembered as the trade- mark of the B2 Calvert grid squad. 54 Varsity Football jack '1Sparky Anderson 5 ..--?--...i---,.a .
