Striving to educate the whole man, this school pre- sents to the students a well-balanced Christian education which will aid him to be successful in this life and which provides him with the tools necessary for attaining the goal of heaven in the next life. Christian education encompasses the whole man, physically , spiritually, morally, and mentally. Students develop phy- sically through the physical education and sports programs presented by Calvert. Academically they are provided a program which offers them an opportunity to develop their mental abilities. Spiritually and morally they are trained through the religion classes, weekly Mass, and through the fine example set by the teachers at Calvert. The annual re- treat also offers the students a chance to come into closer union with Christ. By the time graduation has arrived the Calvert student has been educated as a whole, well-rounded Catholic young man or young woman. 7 'gum ga iff. They receive moral guidance and knowledge of their faith in religion classes, and new and interesting insights into science through chemistry. Their English re- search essay gives them an idea of what is expected of them in higher education. The junior year is not completely filled with work , however. It has its share of fun , from making tallies for football games in the fall to decorating for the annual prom in the spring. QL wil aa, -w M, HUMCRE Because emphasis is placed upon the formation of the whole man, physically, mentally, and spiritually, a Christian education assures students of developing their characters to the best of their abilities. Thus at Calvert self-improvement is stressed in everyway. 'To assure their mental growth, Calvert students are taught to make good use of their study time both in and out of school. During their sophomore year, they continue to develop study habits which influence their scholastic achievements. As the sophomore year draws to a close, these boys and girls are one step higher on the ladder of Christian living. Calvert provides for the intel- lectual training of its students by offering them courses geared to their abilities as well as their vocational plane. There are col- lege preparatory subjects for those who wish to go on to higher education after graduation. Stu- dents may concentrate in special areas such as mathematics or science. Another set of subjects is calculated to prepare the in- terested student for a place in the business world if he intends to choose this field. Still other sub- jects are offered for those who do not intend to go to college or into commercial work. If a stu- dent chooses his courses wisely at Calvert, he will find that all of his needs are provided for in the curriculum. REV. JAMES A. WALSH, B.A., Religion. REV. GEORGE KOERBER, M.A., Religion. Conv., Mt. We pray that he may rest in peace--his noble soul with God for all eternity, his still youthful body awaiting the resurrection of the dead. 96
