f I A tv Y W- vw..- f , fl' 77x 4f 'bzfez-77f,d'LfZ.fQX Cahl 1962 , Published by Calverfcmca St ert H igh Scho -Tiffin, Ohio , Volume 36 Foreword Throughout history windows have served a twofold purpose, to provide beauty and light. One can see this purpose fulfilled by the windows of the irreplace- able Gothic cathedrals of Europe built during the Mid- dle Ages. These famous stained glass windows are beautifully symbolic of religious truths.,Even.today, our modern architects plan structures which have enhanc- ing and purposeful windows. So too the windows of Calvert fulfill their twofold purpose. Colorful and practical windows throughout the school enhance the beauty of our newly dedi- cated building. Moreover, the very atmosphere they create by the amount of light they admit is conducive to study. However, the windows of our school do more than merely provide beauty and light. One can see in them o symbol of the supernatural light which enlightens the souls and minds of Calvert students. The windows of Calvert may also be said to serve as glass mirrors which reflect the activities of its be- loved students. These very windows reflect the same pictures which are revealed in the following pages of the Calvertana. 2 Dedication We, the class of 1962, wish to dedicate this thirty-sixth edition of the Calvertana to Mrs. Harriet McClellan whose varied and numerous services to Calvert and its students over the past nine years have won for her the gratitude and esteem of the faculty and the students. 3 J K . .L as A 7 . These activities, as well as other outside projects, were under the direction of Mr. Lawrence Miletti, president, Mr. Joseph Granata, vice-president, Mrs. Charles Rohrbach, secretary, and Miss Rose Ann Phillips, treasurer. As in the past, a High Mass was offered in the Ursuline Chapel for all living and deceased alumni members and their families. Following the death of a member, the rosary was said and a High Mass was offered for the soul of the deceased. The Alumni Reunion, held at Calvert High School on Sunday, June 3, 1961, was well attended, as was the annual Alumni Dance held at Meadowbrook Ballroom on August 26. This year the class of 1937 celebrated its silver anniversary in coniunction with the annual reunion. The Pre-Lenten Dance, which was held at the Knights of Columbus Home on February 24, was also a success. This year, besides making financial contributions to the Calvert library, the association offered to contribute toward the purchase of school desks, as well as a cabinet and supplies for the health room. An outstanding phase of this year's program was Career Day, at which ten speakers from diversified careers gave informative talks to the Calvert students and their parents. Two other achievements car- ried on by the association included a plaque program honoring all of Calvert's principals, and the purchase of a new frame for the picture of Lord Calvert, drawn by Vincent Omlor, which hangs in the school study hall. Mr. Joseph Granata, vice-president, Mr. Lawrence Miletti, president, Mrs. Charles Rohrbach, secretary, and Miss Rose Ann Phillips, treasurer. ...M if I L wow .' .-f ' -'io Calvertana Patrons Mr. and Mrs. Hans Abbott Henry L Abbott, M.D. The Adams Street Lumber Company Mildred E Adams Advertiser-Tribune AIbert's Ice Cream Allie Allman Al's Gulf Point Service AI's Market American Monument Co.
