flsslktanr Pflllflpdf Assisting Father Shenk is the difficult task ot running a school is our assistant principal, Father Dunn. Besides the regular positions of senior Re- ligion instructor and director of the penalty period, Father also served as one of the direc- tors of the operetta and the senior play, and aided the different classes with their mission parties. One might think he wouldn't have any time left, but never a day passes when he isn't with a student, either helping him, discussing his problems, or listening to the latest news con- cerning extracurricular activities. A. ed 'O Father Dum- Board of Ffkcal fonfrol From the earliest days of our childhood we have always been taken into the friendship of our pastors, who baptized us, heard our first confession, and gave us our first Holy Communion. Monsignor Kinnane and Monsignor Gabel have provided us with fine elementary schools and now with a brand new high school. Realizing the problems that both pastors face be- cause of their own building program makes us more than ever grateful for the financial assistance given the Calvert students. When we realize that our parishes provide the larger portion of the tuition for each of us, we can see that our pastors wish to give us the finest Catholic education. The students ot Calvert High School wish to express to Monsignor Kinnane and Monsig- nor Gabel their sincere thanks tor the guidance and interest that they have always shown from our earliest years. Prlhcibal REV. JOSEPH D. SHENK, M.A., B.S.E. Helping students with homework problems, selecting subjects best suited to a student's ability, directing girls and boys to a right vocation, all are part of a busy day in Father Shenk's lite at Calvert. Father is an ardent supporter ot school actitivites such as the prom, play, operetta, Cal- vert News, Calvertana, Band, athletics and the school clubs. His main interest lies, however, in the students' spiritual lite. Some ot the ways that Father increases devotion to Our Lord, the Blessed Virgin, and the saints are by providing the students with an annually conducted three-day retreat, by re-arranging the schedule so that students can attend Mass and receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays, and by personally helping them with any problem, no matter how small, they may have. The reason behind Father's great interest in the students' spiritual welfare is Father's deep devotion to the Catholic faith. The students all thank Father for his sincere interest and help. - 6 -
