Assistant Pnhcjval There is someone at Calvert who is every student's friend. He has a knack for ironing out complications and can be counted on to listen enthusiastically to everything from the latest parties to the newest problems. At a cheer rally, the student body seems to catch some of his pep and boundless Calvert Spirit. Although in penalty period he is firm about correcting students' faults, and making them realize the necessity of co-operation and obedience, afterwards you often find him the center of a group of laughing, chattering students. Calvert students feel that he is just like one of them. This is Father Dunn, our assistant l principal. REV. EDWARD C. DUNN, M.A. Board of Fllvcal Control In the completed unit of Calvert High School, Monsignor Raphael I. Kinnane, pastor of St. Mary's and Monsignor Richard J. Gabel, pastor of St. .loseph's, behold the goal of their tireless effort and unflinching self-sacrifice. We, the students, too, see the fruit of their labors and daily enjoy its benefits. If it were not for these priests and their generous parishioners, our priceless school would yet be nothing but a fantasy on paper. To the pastors of our respective parishes we, the recipients of their good works, extend our sincerest appreciation and thanks for the opportunity to attend Calvert and to continue a Catholic education. Both Monsignor Kinnane and Monsignor Gabel have a very personal interest in every student of Calvert. Each one is an individual with a soul destined for heaven. Their ambition and their desire is to develop each soul into a perfect mirror of Christ. We are grateful to Msgr. Kinnane and Msgr. Gabel not only for their assistance in our trials and tribulations, but also for their kind encouragement. we Xe!! 'ns RT. REV. MSGR. R. I, KINNANE RT. REV. MSGR. R. J. GABEL S.T.D., V.G., P.A. Principal REV. JOSEPH D. SHENK, M.A., B.S.E. Although burdened with the many duties of running a school, Father Shenk can always find time to help individual students with their personal problems. It doesn't take him long, in the beginning of each school year, to learn the name of each freshman. Always available, Father Shenk is deeply concerned with each person's welfare, and provides a sate shelter in the storms of school life. Though the students' days are from 8200 a.m. until 3200 p.rn., Father's work isn't quite so short. Tackling the problems that are always present to beset a principal, he works from early until late. Nor do his labors cease with the advent of summer. Although the classrooms are silent during the vacation, Father's office is humming with activity. He must use this time to make out a schedule for each student for the coming year. Perhaps his tasks have been a little pleasanter this year, since they were carried out in a bright new school. Remembering the many sacrifices Father has made and the countless hours he has spent to make their high school days happy and profitable ones, the student body will be forever grateful to their principal, Father Shenk. 6
