One of the oldest traditions at Calvert is that the highest honor that can be won by any girl or boy is that of crowning Our Lady's statue at the May Crowning ceremony. Those who have maintained a B+ average in Religion and character rating for four years are candidates for election to this honor. During this religious ceremony, held in the Italian court,, Louis Crist and Louisa Machaels placed the wreath of roses on Our Lady's head. The boy and girl who were next in line, Leo Depinet and Mary Alice Ball, carried the banners of the Blessed Virgin.
