Senior Retreat On the day before graduation the senior class in a body asks God to bless them in their lives. The students regard this day as a very memorable occasion. Missions The students at Calvert devote a few of their homeroom periods to help the home and foreign missions. They also receive much needed help from the two mission parties. Chape1Day Proof that Catholic doctrines and principles are active in the Calvert students is shown by the manner in which they make a visit to the chapel every week. . Each class is assigned to a certain chapel day. For fifteen minutes the students ven- erate the Blessed Sacrament, pray the rosary, recite the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and pray for special intentions. 155: Q91 I I Q Y W tX k is 4 igffiig, ? They were ably assisted by the associate editors. jean Feintuch, Carolyn Vande Kerkhoff. S t e v e Ecos, Donna Falter and Nancy Goetz. The Calfvert News Celebrates The CALVERT NEWS celebrates a silver jubilee this year, 1950. For twenty-five years the editors and their staffs have kept its subscribers well informed on school activities and fellow alumni. The school paper performs a five-fold purpose of bringing the news to the reader: of provid- ing the student with the opportunity of developing his writing ability: of learning to work to- gether: of encouraging participation in Catholic activities in and around school: and lastly, of developing Catholic leaders. Every staff for twenty-five years has echoed the sentiments of this year's editors- we hope you have enjoyed the paper as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to you. Our second page writers are cutting, writing and using up the scotch tape in planning the coming issue. 34 JOHN DEPINET, Fo - Editor NANCY GOETZ' Co , Edna,- The Calfvertana To create the 1950 Calvertana, a presentation of high school highlights, an enthusiastic senior staff has joined its efforts. Dedicating the year book to Pope Pius XII is timely during this, the Holy Year. and pays tribute to his dynamic reign in a troubled world. Nancy Goetz and John Depinet, co-editors, have planned and executed the book. Much forethought and determination, with the cooperation of the seniors, have resulted in this, the 24th publication. Business managers, David Klopp and Alice Crist, directed the drive. The seniors co- operated with them by going forth with spirit to contact the patrons and contributors. The senior members of the art class deserve much credit for the mounting of the pic- tures and the drawing of the division pages. Leading the teams in the Cal- vertana Drive, Nancy Goetz and Donna Falter make their returns to the business managers, Alice Crist and Dave Klopp. 36 Seeking the solution to the journalism problems. these juniors consult the Calvert library. Four of these victories came in a row in the second half of the schedule. Although the Blue and White lost to their new and powerful rivals, Canton Central and Steubenville Central, the Senecas were still able to subdue three of their oldest and fiercest rivals. Fremont St. joseph's, San- dusky St. Mary's, and Tiffin Columbian. The Crimson Streaks were unbeaten before meeting the Z-men, but the Senecas de- lighted a large following by sinking the Streaks 6-0. St. Mary's suffering one of their most disastrous seasons. was easy prey for the Calvert victory bug to the tune of 25-6. The traditional city championship fray followed with the Blue and White an- nexing the title by a 7-6 tally. Coach Zalar's first edition of Senecas featured a rugged line with a combination of shift and power in the backfield. Anchored by senior tackles, Dave Klopp and Steve Ecos, a line ' built around Orians, Paradiso.
