I - T e Activities The folenf of sufcess IS nofh mg more fhcxn doing whof ihoughf of fame ever you do wifhouf C1 May Crowning Mildred Benn Donald Kurtzman Late in May the faculty students and friends of Calvert assembled for the annual May Crowning This ceremony is the most appealing in a religious sense of all the activities of the school year Two members of the senior class honor students in re liglon are selected for this event by the votes of the lunlor and senior classes The students so hon ored during this year were Mildred Benner and Donald Kurtzman The fact that the Blessed Virgin is the patron of Calvert the beautiful season and the simple but never to be forgotten event in the students life Senior Retreat Over fifty seniors were present at the spiritual exercises which marked their annual clay of recollection immediately preceding graduation Opening with Mass and Holy Communion in the Convent Chapel the day was spent in conferences prayer and meditation The retreat which has always been an annual tradition of the school was voluntarily continued by the class of T942 Each year the semor class looks forward to this day as their exclusive privilege and they regard it as the best preparation for graduation page th rty four and x ' er I I I , . MISSION OFFICERS TOP ROW left to right Michael Galetto James Bour Lawrence Galetto George Marinas Robert DeRan Francis Smith SECOND ROW left to right Eugene Bernard Joan Bakos Geraldine Corrigan Carol Dirmger Martha Borer FIRST ROW left to right John Smith Joanne Hoffman Patricia Corcoran Anna Lou Dryfuse Maxine Hoffman The Missions The Mission Unit has long been the pet charity of Calvert High School Established in 1927 by the Rev erend H S Gabel who was at that time director of missions in this diocese the mission spirit at Calvert has ever burned brightly This year was no exception rallies held periodically during the year was largely due to their efforts The annual paper sale was held on Friday and Saturday October IO and 'II Students scoured the town in search of paper iron rubber and anything else acceptable to the punk man Calvert court was a scene of bustling activity with the students bringing in the spoils and the huge trucks taking them away This all out effort resulted In a vast accumulation of materal which netted an Impressive fund further the cause of the missions PRAYER LEAGUE At the beginning of the fall term students who volunteered for this service were banded together in the Prayer League The purpose of the League is the perpetual recitation of the Rosary throughout the year This year one hundred and thirty nine students made the pledge The classes are represented as fol lows seniors thirty three luniors forty one sophomores forty and freshmen twenty five Students go to the chapel in pairs at intervals of twenty minutes Continuous prayer is offered for the success of the school and its members page thirty five The officers selected were outstanding in their zeal for the missionsp and the success of the mission , .
