Cflliwf af P1 113111 In the ltallan Court the student body of Calvert agann partlcvpated In the solemn dedlca CROWNING tuon of themselves to the Blessed Vlrgln under whose patronage the school IS placed As representattves of the students two sensors are chosen and glven the honor of crown :ng the Blessed Mother one of the most beautiful rellglous ceremonies of the year To be elaguble the boy and the gurl must have malntamed a record of A IH their rellglon classes throughout thenr four years of hvgh school Thus year after the nomlnatlons were made by the direct vote of the senior class the lumors and seniors as sembled In the study hall for electron As a result of their cholce thus honor always acknowledged as the greatest to be attained by a Calvert student was bestowed on Rose Mary Mlchaels and Richard Puffenberger The May Crownmg took place In the latter part of May The processlon ofthe students formed In the garden and slowly wended Its way to the beautlful ltallan Court chanting the Lltany of the Blessed Vlrgln As the May Crownlng hymn was sung the two honored students placed a crown of roses upon the statue of the Blessed Mother Followmg the ceremony was the f6ClfCTIOD of the Act of Consecratron and solemn Benedlctlon of the Blessed Sacrament At the close of the lmpressvve May Crownnng exerclses the students left the court smgmg hymns of praise to the Queen of Heaven Rev Carl F Relneck dlocesan dlrector of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and ETREAT chaplam at Mercy Hospital Toledo conducted the fourteenth annual student retreat at Cal vert Aprul 3 4 and 5 the furst three days of Holy Week The three days of the retreat opened wlth Mass and Holy Communlon followed by two conferences durlng the mormng Followmg the two lectures m the afternoon the day ended wnth Beneductnon of the Blessed Sac rament On the last day the Papal blessing was gtven by Father Relneck The League of Perpetual Prayer a traditional custom of Calvert school llfe was agaln organized at the opening of thus school year Students voluntarlly pledge one half of one of their study hours each week spending the time before the Blessed Sacrament beggmg favors both splrltual and temporal for the school During this time the Rosary and Lltany of the Blessed Vlrgln Mary are recited By thus devotion to Our Lady many blessmgs have been granted to Calvert page twenty sux l g - f 4 9 .
