Part of that enthusuasm was due to our home room advusors SusterM Mauruce and Mr Robert Gase The gurls Valentune party a few days before Lent ended our socual actuvutues as freshmen Our sophomore year saw another change un the faculty Returnung to hus Alma Mater Father Gullug replaced Father Osterhage as assustant pruncupal The days rolled along wuth Suster Chrustune returung as durectress of the Glee Club and Suster Emmanuel taking her place Santa Claus managed to vusut the sophomore boys and remaun the talk of the school Shortly after the uoyous season of Easter our hearts were saddened by the death of 7 our dear fruend and kund advusor Monsugnor Hultgen The thrull of startung our uunuor years was lessened by the loss of Herman Smuth a quuet but promunent member of our class who died August 29 1937 Whule the gurls swung unto the furst quarter un theur new unuforms the boys provung theur abuluty as mussuon workers swayed unto the lumelught by tyung wuth the sophomores for the furst place un the annual paper sale From then on no grass grew under our feet Sunce we were now of votung age our furst experience at the ballot resulted un the electuon of capable class offucers Louus De Monte presudent Jane Robenalt vuce presudent Carl Heck treasurer and Vurgunua Roberts secretary A pre Lenten dance our socual debut as lunuors went over bug Our pace was slackened somewhat early un Aprul by the ullness of Suster M Davud our Englush unstructor and advusor to the Calvert publucatuons Muss Huldegarde Fleck substututung for Suster was temporaruly added to the Calvert faculty 8 The uunuor edutuon of the Calvert News and the lnter Nos showed our uournalustuc abuluty whule our entertaunung potentualutues were brought out by the elaborate musucal theme employed for the Junuor Senuor Prom class ut seemed that bad luck was always at our heels It caught up wuth us when ut was announced that Doctor Gallagher Calverts furst pruncupal was to be transferred to De Sales College as Dean of Students Thus was partucularly felt by us as we were about to embark on the last few knots of our uourney the senuor year And as senuors a great responsubuluty would be laud on our shoulders to set a good example Funally our lufe ambutuon was realuzed and we were senuors Father Jaeger formerly a member of Calverts faculty and now returnung as pruncupal was cordually welcomed at a unuque assembly conducted by the retur ung uunuor class officers Father Gullug extended the offucual welcome To keep us on the straught and narrow road Suster M Grace and Suster M Lelua were appounted our home room advisors Father Herunghaus re placed Suster Emmanuel as Glee Club durector We had many tumes been warned fby those who went through the mulll that our senuor IQ Q 0' year would be the busuest we too fouled to change that standard The paper sale the Calvert News druve wuth the senuor gurls un the lead and the Catholuc Chronucle druve won by the senuor gurls all followed un quuck successuon Next un lune was the class electuon of offucers Joseph Nutecku presudent Helen Wulhelm vuce presudent Mary Haman secretary and James Taylor treasurer A few weeks later Donald Gullug was chosen edutor un chuef of the Calvert News The Adorable Spendthruft by Roy Bruant our class play was durected by Eugene L Muller and agaun struck the hugh water mark un success The Calvertana wuth Rosemary Decker as uts edutor un chuef was another cause for the swuft flught of our senuor year And then the surpruse of surpruses' Our Junuor Senuor Prom was held at the K of C The school seal amud blue and whute streamers was a most appropruate theme May Crownung our funal spurutual event was agaun held un the ltaluan Court Rose Mary Muchaels and Ruchard Puffenberger were chosen to crown our Blessed Lady Our class welcome on graduatuon nuqht was extended by Helen Wulhelm and Carl Heck gave the class farewell Then mud the last strauns of the Te Deum the cur taun fell on the last and funal act of our play Our Four Years at Calvert page eughteen U 0 I . . . .
