Or, is one limited who is an active member of as many circles as she has children? And as her worlds of activ ligious activities is the most essential of motherhood. All religious teachers are found outside the home, but some of the best teachers in religion are to be found in the home. ln school a :hild is taught the rudiments of the three R's, but it is in the home and from his mother that he first learns and understands the greatest which we all know is the very essence of hap R Religion ities are greater greater also are her opportuni ties of cultiy ating that peace a n d happiness which is the blessing of every true home Not infrequently wt find those who will approve the years spent by a woman in prep aration for law or medicine and mini mize the value of high cr educational advant ages for the h o m e seeking girl There is no end to the years that can be profitably spent in preparation for home making Every mother must be in some degree a teacher and a college or university degree finds lfS full meaning only in a home What possibility for happi ness can not be found we will say for example in music or literature or the various sports and other cultural forms of recreation when mother lends encouragement Fostering any worthwhile activity naturally follows appreciation of it Twas his mother who took a secret pride ln the boy Angelos drawings praised and en couraged him and finally succeeded in persuading his father to allow him to study art Was this mother happy in her work? We know that Angelo was happy in his Fruitless indeed would be the hope of happiness if religion were not its vitalizmg force Unless the Lord build the house they labor in vain vi ho build it And the sphere of re RL IH DXNIIFL 'T piness Can artist paint or poet dream a picture of sweeter contentment than that of a child of two at his mother sknee lispmg the sacred names of Jesus and Mary Let those who will seek for limited careers yes seek them to their bitter end but our prayer tonight is that God may grant us girls and young women whose mid summer dreams are of homes and families who have y isionenoughto real17e that if happy homes are to bless this earth of ours this blessing must come pr1 marily through the mother and through that type of mother who ap preciates both motherhood and home life as the greatest career on earth What happiness can there be where a mother sees her children just so many impediments to her social activities who looks upon them as so many chains to bind her to her slavery or so many bars to lock her in her prison home In these days there IS little wonder that the cry comes from all sides for a solution to the breakdown of the happy home of yesterday This solution can only come through the true concept of the dignity and im portance of motherhood and home making Happy indeed and blessed is the home over which presides the mother vyhose kitchen is her office whose home IS her business world and a baby s lisp her highest praise -Z XP I KP ANL 'W ff' b 'pn ,H I ' ' 2 ' . . ? i , . 11 ' I I - Y . Then John Hinchey decided that one ' tincup is enough for any school. He there- fore just fhitched up with the first honorable mention in the Boys' Contest. Eyen the mission unit has raked in more USimoleons' than in any previous year. And now to end the season with a bang vye have the crust to publish this yearbook knowing full well that the one of last year took an All-American rating. General Scholarship is the older and though his ways are stern and demanding still he is the idol of the outside world. Captain Activities is younger and the self-deemed wise world casts upon him a look of disfavor Nevertheless he has gained his ground with youth for school would be one long monotonous drill without his ever changing diversions None can deny that Youth worships novelty nor can they prove that it is necessarily harmful Athletics which may be participated in only by those who have lived up to the strict requirements of General Scholarship are promoters of discipline and offer healthful exercise to contestants and pleasant pastime to spectators Calvert lists for its students a goodly program of sports but always with set scholastic restrictions Calvert s annual play and other minor entertainments staged during the year prove Dramatics invaluable in the quest of self expression and good lively or tragic entertainment for all Music is one of the mayor Joys of life In an endeavor to promote a greater appreciation of music the Glee Club and Harmonica Band have been organized Boys and girls willingly give time to these not only for the sake of bringing happiness to others but also for the cultural effects on their own lives Few can boast a 'flission Unit with aims equal to Calvert s The missions are much in need of help and Calvert students respond readily to their call for aid Truly they find content in others joy Situations are quite the same in regard to Calvert Nevis It is a pleasure to students to be able to keep the outside world informed of their progress Such a publication is an asset to the school because of the interest it inspires in creative writing and the competition it stimulates among all who striye for a place on its staff Each month it takes its toll of spare time yet no one seems to suffer loss Supplementing the monthly paper is our Calvertana Important as we con sider it we do not slight the orders of General Scholarship to heed the demands of our publication It is like all the others extra something done because we enjoy doing it and it has a positiye y alue in high school training In years to come imagine vyhat this treasure of memories yy ill mean to us If u e haye the least bit of sentiment it will recall the happy times spent in gathering these precious bits of neu s feature articles and photos of our school day' compan ions and teachers Happiness and inspiration to nobler things are bound to find us yy hen we are reyievy ing the scenes and events of other days It is with this eye to the future that vie as seniors publish our mueh loved Calyertana even though it has been judged best to modify its former splendor We the same good spirit that characterized the books of other years As seniors we TLBIILL that when leaving vi e shall be vi ell schooled in the vs ays of General Scholar ship and our lives will be fuller and more cultured because of our contact with Captain Activities To preserve a happy recollection of both in the years to come vi e will peruse again and again this priceless Caly ertana IEHFCXIXIRIANASIAII 34 a 1 .
