November 7. There is so much excitement around here today and I feel like shouting too. It seems that a few weeks ago some of the students got together and bought a printing press which they installed down in my basement. Then they formed a staff to edit a monthly college paper and today the first copy is off the press. It is named the Calvary Clarion . November I7. I feel so lonesome tonight. Where are all the students? I beg pardon, what did you say? Oh, they have all gone with their Church Advertising Teacher, Miss Dorothy Martin to the Times building to learn how a newspaper is formed. November 24. V My, what a busy day! Two birthday parties for our Dean, Miss Harriet Jordan. A wonderful dinner at noon and a gorgeous pink and white cake at night. December I3. All the young people of the Church have banded themselves together as the ChalIengers . Under the direction of President Stanley Smith, they chose one of the large rooms in my basement and completely redecorated it. It turned out so lovely that they decided to officially dedicate it to the Lord. Tonight, Dr. Claire Britton of Alhambra, came in and presented this Challenger Chapel to the service of God. December I5. I know a secret but I simply have to tell it. Since the Clarion is ,such a success some ofthe students now want an Annual. They asked for suggestions for a name and so today Dr. Gray and Dr. Morrison put their heads together and, sure enough, it wasn't long before they were talking of the beloved land of their ancestors . . . Scotland. Soon they thought of the faithful and courageous lives of the Covenant- ers and from this conversation sprang the inspiration to name the Calvary Annual, the Covenanter . January I4, I938. - Um, see all the pretty things! 'Tis a wedding shower for our secretary, Mabel, who married Mr. Walter Shelton on January I, just a few minutes after midnight when that day actually was ushered in. January I6. This lovely Sunday morning brought a reverent hush over the congregation of Calvary Church. The first Baccalaureate sermon of Calvary College was to be preached this morning to the eleven students about to graduate-.' Dressed in their new gray and navy blue uniforms, the women graduates presented a beautiful picture as they marched in with the men, to consecrate their lives afresh to God. January 2l. The first Graduation of Calvary College! The Calvary Messengers received their diplomas amid the thrilling best wishes of their fellow students and friends of the audience. God bless you, Messengers!

My private Diary ...... I-Io I-luml What a quiet and peacetul lite I live. Being a Sunday School building certainly has its advantages. I sometimes wonder how I would ever stand it it I were a busy ottice building down in the heart ot Los Angeles. l'lere, the rustle ot busy teet and the happy clamor ot children's voices only disturbs my placid lite once a week. Then I rather enjoy the brief change but it is nice to know that I can settle back once more tor six contented days. August, l937. What's this that is going on all about me? The noise ot brooms sweeping every- where, the pounding ot hammers and the buzz ot saws, women scrubbing my tloors, and typewriters singing out their varied songs? What means all this? I can't understand it. But wait a momentl Someone is talking and I must listen closer. Why, they are talking ot me. A school? Who, me? I'm to become a Bible School? Surely that can't be, they must mean someone else. But no, they are talking ot me. Oh, oh, oh, my dreams ot sweet peace are vanishing into thin air. l'm afraid that l'm not going to like this. September I. Sure enough, Bible School opened tonight. About sixty ot the grandest people stood and signitied and they were enrolling in this college. Dr. Claire Britton delivered the opening address and when he had finished I looked at the taces ot the other people present and I could see that many of them were only wishing that they too could be numbered among that happy sixty students. And now, do you know what my name is? lt's Calvary College. September I5. College days have been progressing now tor 'litteen days and nights and I surely have changed my mind about everything. I thought it would be so disagreeable Being a school, but say, l'm the proudest building in California now. September 23. Tonight all the students met together and had a dinner in the gym. It was initia- tion night and they all had such a grand time that I couldn't decide whether it was the taculty or the students which were being initiated. October 26. God is richly blessing this place and as Mrs. Judd spoke to the students ot the night classes, a determination to know Christ better entered the heart ot every student. October 28. The students ot the day school may be tewer in number than ot the night, but they boast ot just being one happy tamily. Today they gathered in the kitchen and proudly served the faculty with hot chocolate during recess. 'I

January 24. I'II be so glad when next Monday comes. This whole weelc has been vacation time -before the new term begins and I surely do miss the presence ot the students. They have a surprise coming to them when they do return, tor the school ottice has been completely changed about. January 30. The graduates and a number ot advance students received their license to preach in a precious service this afternoon. January 3I. The new Spring term opened tonight. Last term's students are baclc and even most ot the graduates returned also tor further study. Then the Lord added a tine crop ot new faces and l say with the Faculty Saviour, malce us all channels ot blessing this term . February I I. , Initiation time again. This date all the students trom both day and night school came together in the evening and celebrated with a VaIentine's party. Seeing as there were big red hearts placed everywhere about the room, it seems to me that more than just the new students should have been initiated. I've heard that several romances have blossomed here this year since I have been a Bible College. I could mention a tew names but umm, I guess I won't just now. March I5. Photographers, cameras, tlash lights and pretty smiles predominate this month as pictures were taken for the Covenanter . None ot the students, however, were prouder than me, tor I put on my best behavior when that photographer took my picture to put in this Annual that is going all over the world by the grace ot God to help spread the Gospel ot Jesus Christ. April I. In day school there is a trio ot girls who call themselves the Three Discords . Without a word ot further introduction, let me tell you a story from their eventtul lives. Being that today was April FooI's day they decided that no one should be able to say that they hadn't done their part to malce the day a huge success. Silently they tip-toed down my hall stairs and with many a guilty and backward glance they made their way over to Jimmy ElIsworth's automobile where they proceeded to let the air out of the tires. Then hunting an advantageous spot where they might hide and watch the surprised Ioolc on Jimmy's tace when he came out ot school, they started tor that place when the story took on an entirely ditterent ending. All ot this time Jimmy had been sitting near a window upstairs, watching the whole performance. It you have any imagination at all, I'II let you finish the tale. April I5. The printer says that I must tinish my diary tor now as it is time tor all material for the Covenanter to be on the press. One year is almost over since I became a Bible College. Just thinlc what the Lord has done tor me. As I sit here in dreams ot reminiscence I wonder what the Lord has done tor you. Are you telling others about it and Him?
