Calvary Church Qrgariist RUTH A. SCHUETTE When God parted the waters ot the Red Sea and caused the Israelites to go through dry shod, Moses led the people in a song ot praise and victory. Years later, David, the sweet singer of lsrael, added the beloved Psalms. Since then music, blessed by God, has thrilled the souls of the Redeemed and wooed the hearts of the Unbelievers. The members and students of Calvary Church have likewise felt the nearness of Christ through the console artistry of Miss Ruth A. Schuette. As director of the choir and organist of the church, she has endeared herself to all who have heard her ministry of music.

-l-hree Ministries of the Holy Spirit . As the world today rushes madly on its way with its disquieted spirit and groping in blindness, how sweet to the heart of the believer are the words of the Lord Jesus set down by the pen of St. John, the beloved, Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you: but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment .... Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of Himself: but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. , Could there be any greater sorrow overtake one than having the person nearest and dearest to their heart taken away from them? We say no , for this seems to be the ordinary, reactive course of human nature. Here, in this sixteenth chapter of John, we find this picture. The disciples' hearts are filled with sorrow because their Lord has told them of his departure from them. It seemed almost incredible to them that their Lord, whom they had forsaken all for and learned to love so ardently, should be taken from them: yet it must be true. How fitting that Jesus said I will send the Comforter to you . Comfort was what they needed at this time and the Lord knowing this gave them the promise of the Holy Spirit as the Comforter. True as these words are and blessed to receive, in the very next verse our Lord reveals the fact that he shall not only be the Comforter but the Reprover. Ah! here we find the thorn on the stem of the rose. How we love to nestle the rose as we inhale its fragrance, but how quickly we forget the beauty and essence of its being when the thorn pricks us. So it is with the Holy Spirit: all too soon is his comfort forgotten in the pain of reproof. Strange as it may seem this leads us into the revelation of the third work of the Holy Spirit as found in this chapter. Where there is no reproof there is no cor- rection. Where there is correction, there is guidance. He will guide you into all truth. Just as parents are guides to their children in reproving them for the wrong things and leading them into the right: so the Holy Spirit reproves us of sin, righteous- ness, and judgment and guides us into all truth. What is the all truth that we shall be guided into? Jesus himself said I am the way, the truth, and the life . John I4-:6. Here we find that which is absolute and brings us to the consumation of the Holy Spirit as our guide. For he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink: but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. -Dorothy L. Lewis.
