ls -lhere A Solution ..... He was seen walking hurriedly through the mass ot humanity in the downtown area ot Los Angeles. In appearance he was no ditterent trom the other thousands who crowded the streets every evening at a tew minutes past tive. Although his pro- gress was hurried, it could not be said that he stepped lively, tor he walked as though his teet were lead, seemingly having to torce them to move. I-Iis expression was that ot every one else on the street: tired, a little anxious and quite worried. I-Ie seemed impatient it some one stepped in his path as he threaded his way toward the satety zone. Presently he would be holding on to a strap, shoving and being shoved by the thousands who were now beginning to seek their homes in the suburbs ot the great city. Yes, the metropolitan area was being emptied ot its sea ot humanity as tast as transportation could untangle itselt trom the congested avenues. Continuing to tollowu our triend we 'notice that he seems a bit preoccupied, and a little too much so, tor as he steps trom the curb he is greeted by the shriek ot brakes and the blast ot an automobile horn. No, it isn't a tragedy but it might have been. Stepping back up on the curb and looking around he tinds to his surprise that he had tried to enter the line ot trattic against a red light. Turning to a stranger standing beside him he is heard to remark that it sure was a close one and, I haven't the slightest idea why I was in such a hurry: I have no place to go in particular and nothing to do when I get there . Then, as the light changes to green, he hurries Ott into the iostling crowd and is again lost amid his worry and anxiety. Could this scene have possibly taken place in a nation such as ours, a nation that claims to be at peace? Yes, such scenes as this are enacted around us every day, It surely must be a mistaken idea that ours is a peacetul nation. Peaceful on the outside yes, and to other nations, but inside, the people themselves who make up so great a country are in a great unrest. They are dissatistied with lite, with social conditions. with positions: all seem to have a complaint to make. But need such a condition exist? ls there not some remedy tor a tired, worn and upset world? We hear many such questions as this, and how glad we are that we can answer in the words ot the Apostle Paul in his Epistle to the I-Iebrews: There remoineth there- tore 0 rest to the people ot God . A rest where we can lay aside all the cares ot the world, where we can cease from everything and enter into that rest ot taith and trust in God. A rest in which all anxiety tor the perplexing problems ot the modern world will ever be in the background. For he thot is entered into his rest hcrth ceased trom his own works, cfs God did trom His. -Harry F. Pickens
