The rationale for the program was derived from a realization that the City of Chicago has a very large population of students who are capable of pursuing engineering or science careers, but since they have not identified their career choice early enough, they may not have the proper course patterns for admissions to the college of their choice. Furthermore, many science and mathematics courses at the high school level do not have enough motivated students enrolled for the faculty to develop effective teaching techniques.
