The rationale for the program was derived from a realization that the City of Chicago has a very large population of students who are capable of pursuing engineering or science careers, but since they have not identified their career choice early enough, they may not have the proper course patterns for admissions to the college of their choice. Furthermore, many science and mathematics courses at the high school level do not have enough motivated students enrolled for the faculty to develop effective teaching techniques. TOMORROW'S MEN Children today - tomorrow - men! A few more suns and moons and then Long limbed and sinewy they stand The manhood of our native land. Show them the dignity of toilg Give them the mother-touch of soilg Teach them the cunning of the toolg As well as riddles of the school. For wealth and favors fade away With fortune's frown within a dayg But masters of a trade are free To re-secure their destiny. Where is the man who dares to scorn The honest man to labor born? My soul has grown deep like the rivers. l bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young. l built my hut near the Congo and it Iulled me to sleep. l looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it. l heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln went down to New Orleans, and l've seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset. l've known rivers: Ancient, dusky rivers. My soul has grown deep like the rivers. Langston Hughes Eighty-Five CAREER DAY was held at Calumet for all Juniors and Seniors. Approximately seventy 4705 different careers were represented.
