' , V , , CLASS OFFICERS President BILL RANKIN Vice-President RAE DEL GIGRNO Secretary MARLENE BGLLINGER Treasurer CALM .xlvlidfory - - anuary, 7952 As we entered the hig doors of Calumet, we stared in awe and hewitderment at what lay hefore us. Finding our way to the Iunchroom, gym, and through the halls was very confusing. But the year passed swiftly and to our relief we hecame Sophomores. Qur new suhjects hrought trying prohtems. Learning Math terms and reading plays took up a tot of our time hut we managed to save enough for the Friday sociats, foothatt games, and various ctuh meetings. ' Qur Junior year found us working diligently and trying hard to squeeze in more activities. Sten, U. S., and Physics proved troublesome to some of us hut most of us managed to tearn a tot. The original 188 in our class has dwindled to 132, making us the smallest graduating class from Cat in the last 25 years. We chose rings, had graduation photos tatcen and were measured for caps and gowns. We elected Ron Kteim as our class president, Jack Owfoole as outstand- ing student, and made Dorothy Sutz head of the Senior Girls' Council. No matter where we may go or what we do after graduation, we shalt atways rememher Calumet. We hope that you will welcome us whenever we return, for our memories of the wonderful time we have spent here will never leave us. Then when we hegan our sophomore year, we in our tum tool: delight in sneering at the freshies. As juniors we studied the mysteries of physics and came to have a deeper respect for our countryls past. We were hy this time deeply engaged in school activities and hoped we looked as important as we felt. Then quite sucicteniy we found ourselves the hig wheels we had always dreamed of heing. We hoped for, hut ciicinyt always get, the short programs we cie- sired. June brought the Prom at the Edgewater Beach and hefore we icnew it, the last week ushered in Class Day and culminated in Graduation Night. The Hower girls siowiy came clown the aisles and we filed after them, taking our places. Our ciass president gave a Fine speech, and we were very proud when we received our diplomas and felt our parents, approving eyes upon us. Quite suddenly it was all over, and we couicinyt heip hut wish we could do it au over again i 5 1 CLASS OFFICERS SHIRLEY EILEEN ALBERT H Z W ACCL lrlz-lolxgartc-l. UAA, Girls' Rifle Club. The R.O.T.C. malces a material contribution to the nationss security. lt Was organized in l92O hy an act of Congress and since that time has fulfilled the fondest dreams of its creators lay supplying the army in time of national emergency with a corps of well trained officers who act not only as comhat com- manders, hut as instructors to those heing called up hy the selective service system. Today we Find in high school R.0.T.C. a com- prehensive program designed to give the student a thorough grounding in military training along with a knowledge of the complex organization of which he may Find himself a part in the near future. But even more important is the leadership training he receives which will serve him Well in civilian life as Well as in a military career. The leadership that is taught is not just text hook theory hut practical worlc which requires real leadership on the part of the cadet. Une of the hasic aims of this course is to Hnd and cultivate this quality, for it is the first prerequisite of a fine army. Efficiency is the ohjective of R.O.T.C. partici- pation in such events as the Piclced Platoon compe- tition and the Fifth Army Rilie Match. And it is on their etliciency that the cadets are rated in the an- nual Federal lnspection each spring.
