my Sonia .fdrounvl C K THE CRIER OFFICE The Crier Office, which formerly had oc- cupied room 126 until 1940 when that room was taken over by the Senior Counselor, for a time Was located in 210 and 334. But in 1948, 318 became the permanent Crier Office. ln this room the paper is planned, articles Written, page plans drawn, dummies pasted, and files kept. Mrs. Gwen 1-lultenschmidt, editorial ad- visor of this publication, is assisted by Dick Powers, editor-in-chief, and a staff who have taken Iournalism. THE LITTLE THEATER ln the fall of '49, roorn 249 Was converted into a little theater. The Board of Education decorated the room in grey and rose and the PTA provided stage lights, fireproof curtains and drapes. The Little Theater is now used by English classes to present special projects, such as movies, dramatizations of book reports, and Wire recordings of BeoWu1f . The Drama Club presents numerous plays and the Social Science department offers lectures. ATTENDANCE OFFICE Mr. Elmer Casey, attendance counselor, is in charge of room 140, Where the attendance records of all Calumet students are kept. Miss Todd and Mr. Sietsema, Who have at various times also headed this office, assist in keeping the records and help the truant officer secure better attendance. Students who Work in this office receive service points and a chance to earn a letter. Before this room was organized in 1944, session teachers were solely responsi- ble for the attendance records of their students.

THE SOCIAL ROOM The Social Room, 1l7, was decorated in grey in the fall of 1949. The PTA contributed forest green drapes and Window-seat cushions. The ACCL bought four landscape oil paintings by Arno Bretsnyder, a local Beverly Hills artist. During the summer of '50, the Board of Educa- tion furnished the room in modern bleached oak furniture with plastic upholstery in con- trasting colors, such as coral and yellow. There is a piano and radio-phonograph for social occasions, and chairs, tables and lamps are arranged informally for committee and club meetings. THE ADAMS HISTORY ANNEX The Victoria Adams History Reference room is a library annex equipped in March 1950, This room honors Miss Adams, a former Calumet history teacher, who presented to the school library five hundred history and Civics books Which she accumulated through her Work on a committee to select the best social science text books. Students can receive extra help from teachers in charge of the room. Miss Adams, a descendant of President lohn Adams, also established an 586,000 trust fund, the in- come from which finances scholarships to the University of Chicago, to encourage Calumet students to study history. THE ADIUSTMENT OFFICE About ten years ago, room ll2 was changed from a large study hall into the Ad- justment Office. The office had been in room 117 until it was remodeled into a social room. Miss Mildred Harris, Adjustment Counselor, gives aptitude tests and keeps cumulative fold- ers on each student.
