,Q MHQQHQ el' . CALUMET WHE for the first few months not all the third floor was in use and in the spring the track team rehearsed the IUU yard dash in the third floor hall. This was done apparently without casualties. HOWARD S. BECHTOLT f S panishl . . , there was no floor in the gym, so the girls had gym in ll7. We covered the doors and windows with paper, and dressed and worked in the open room. Of course gym classes had only twenty-five pupils then. HELEN DAVIDGE I Physical Ed.l the absence of trees, shrubs, and grass convinced me that the grounds needed beau- tifying. Each session raised ten dollars to buy elm trees for the front of the school and next spring the first Rose Day was held to provide funds for further improvements. Later the Gar- den Club was organized to carry on this work. RUBY FREMONT fBioIogyI . . . I was a substitute. Mr. Dougherty ex- plained all the rules except one to me. When he did not go to the first fire drill, I thought I didn't have to go. Miss Melody later scolded me for trying to become a Big black Cinder. This embarrassing experience as a newcomer interested me in helping freshmen. HARRIETT HAGEN CEnglish2 the lunchroom wasn't yet completedg so the students and teachers ate their lunch in whatever classroom they happened to be in at the time. ETHEL MEALIFF I Latin I . . . I couldn't keep up with the reams of bul- letins giving new rules for school procedures and then countermanding them. The enroll- ment was so high that not less than four pupils were assigned to each locker. IAMES WILBUR fPhysics1 4115
